I can make a call fine, the internet works ok, but anyone trying to call me gets cut off after one ring.
Phoned customer services who said, line was showing a 'potential' problem. Then he got me to remove the front plate of the master socket and plug in phone, then he gave me a call and got cut off after one ring....
Its been doing that for weeks, just ive not realised there was a problem with my phone line ::)
Engineer is booked for a visit Tuesday morning.......

What's a land line? :)
-
TBH, it may be going in 12 months when my 2 year contract is up.
But for £12/month for both line rental and internet service (no monthly usage limit either!), I couldn't really turn it down :)

it's connected to the phone your Mum rings you on ;)

It must be a good line from the after life :) :)

From down there it will be a Hot Line!
Ron.

No need old boy :y :y

Sounds like the Resistor/Capacitor in the ring circuit is playing silly buggers.

Its called Ring Trip. Ensure none of your sockets have got damp inside.

Its called Ring Trip. ....
Sounds like a course of antibiotics should clear it up ...... ::)

That's cleaner than it could have been, Andy!

Only use master socket (that was replaced a couple of years ago when I had another line fault)
Adsl filter plugged into that, with cordless phone set and router plugged in that.
So, is the 'Ring Trip' triggered at the exchange or something the master socket does?
I'm probably well out of touch now, but about 30years ago iirc, when I worked for a company that manufactured the Mnimaster2 for BT and I had the pleasure of fixing the sods as they rolled of the production line and failed testing, the voltage shoved down the line to make a phone ring was 110VAC....the voltage on the phone line normally was 50VDC.....
Do you remember the Minimaster2, TB
We also had a contract to repair the BT Robin answering machine......they were a nightmare to repair.....originally made in HK or somewhere like that!
-
Robin was the little brother to the twin tape Kingfisher IIRC, back in the late 80s. And, yes, sadly, I remember the Minimasters, though didn't have too much to do with them.
Is your socket an NTE5 (the one with test socket behind the lower faceplate? If so, plug all the shit into that... ...other extension sockets around the house can cause ring trip. Ring trip occurs because the higher ring voltage causes the damp green mould to become more conductive (usually in one direction, bit like a diode), which the exchange sees as the handset being lifted, hence stops the ringing.

Yep the Robin was single tape.....used to knacker the tapes quickly iirc....constantly FF and FR to get to right place on the tape.....
and yes the socket is NTE5....no other extensions....as ive said TB.....and I think in my original post I did say that the blokey on the other end of the phone got me to do that and it made no difference :)
-
IIRC Ring trip can be caused by a bad connection or damp in the cab, DP or even UG.
-
Excellent TD, just wait for OR bloke then :). As said, it does sometimes happen in cables, again causes by dampness. Slightly less common, as the wires are insulated and thus waterproof.
-
worth trying a 2nd phone, just in case it is the phone. Just trying to avoid a charge to you :)

When I was SFIO, I had a "learning difficulties" customer in one of the less desirable estates in Milton Keynes, and any fault raised came straight to me rather than the usual repair guys. Always was a ring trip fault.
Every time he had a fault, I could guarantee he'd pissed on the socket again. I learnt after the first visit never to kneel down to remove the sockets, as I'd have stinking wet knees for the rest of the day >:(

When I was a 17 year old youth on subs maintenance, my problem was middle aged women getting a bit too close for comfort......all to just tease me, of course. :-[

And as for the telephonists on the big PABX's..........I was bruised with the groping.... :o

On Sunday, before I reported the fault I unplugged the adsl splitter, and therefore the phone and router and rung my number from my mobile, I still got cut off after one ring :)

Reported fault on Sunday......supposedly I got an 8am to 1pm appointment for tomorrow morning.....we shall see....seems a bit quick to me :-\

They seem to have got their act together.......a bit.

I rephrased it several times before posting ;D ;D

Mr OR blokey has been and gone (only here 2 1/2 hours)
Apparently he changed a part at the top of the telegraph pole, then discovered another fault, which he found in a junction box inside my house before it gets to the master socket.
Plus he changed my master socket to a 5C which has got the ADSL splitter built in :y
Job done :)

Reckon had he had started the other way around he would have been there 10 mins.
