That was a ruddy good engine. Perhaps not its finest hour in the Omega, but that's to be said of the smallest engine in any car's range.
I can imagine the day when there's one appears at the VBOA rally and the announcer says this is the only one left.

A bit too weak engine for a car heavy as omega.
But simple, reliable and cheap to run.
If I had to take omega for a trip around the world, I would probably choose 8v omega.
It wouldn't be very fast trip, tough ;D

Surprisingly driveable as this power plant had lots of low down torque but, ran out of breath further up the rev range (hence the lower bhp figure). Not to hard to tweak up to a useable 130bhp with standard parts

When my Father in law gave his W reg 1.6 16V astra club to my son with a mere 19K on the clock (2 years ago) we put it's value at a max of £1200 for a private sale. It was (and still is but with £33K on the clock) perfect, having NEVER been out in the rain, never done a short journey less than 6 miles, always polished and washed monthly (whether he used it or not), serviced properly every 1000 miles or 1 year which ever came first.
The tyres were not worn out but my son replaced them as they were dangerous in the wet.
I have just sold a 1.6 16V Sport Astra (54 reg) with 54K on the clock for £750. I paid £850 for it with 34K on the clock about 15 months ago. It wasn't concourse, but it was pretty good.
I would put a nippy astra, as more desirable than an overweight underpowered tank, and would honestly value it at £500 if that.
Miles are not low enough to be called Low.

can't agree 40k miles in 20 years is low and astras are as common as muck :-*
