Title: rover 25
Post by: raywilb on 22 November 2016, 14:40:11
I recently purchased a rover 25 for my daughter in law. after reading that h/g go & it having a slight cooling loss I thought the worse. how ever  somebody advised me to switch heaters to full & top up. his advice seems to have worked as it has not needed topping up since.apparentley they are renowned for airlocks in the cooling system however I will change the water pump, cambelt, tensioner & the thermostat + housing (which are already purchased).

Check the inlet manifold gasket for leaking, often mistaken for HGF and much easier to fix

Generally, check the coolant level regularly, and they are not as bad as made out on the HF front.  Let them run a little low on coolant, the HG *WILL* fail.

Not a bad little car, let down by penny pinching (esp the 2002 onwards ones) and "built in Longbridge".  We miss ours.
