Title: Ford's new 1L twin
Post by: Rods2 on 01 December 2016, 00:23:10
Oh and the 3rd cylinder cuts in when 'needed' on their triples from 2018. ::)

It gets better.

It's going to be available as a faux "crossover" (so is that a faux, faux 4x4?): http://www.autoblog.com/2016/11/29/2018-ford-fiesta-revealed-active-ecoboost-cylinder-deactivation/

(Checks to see if it's 1st April).

SO.. it doesn't get "buzzy and unrefined".. This is a 3 cylinder engine running on 2 we're talking about.  ::)

Ahhh... The "tin snail".  ;D

Not without their uses. I seriously considered building one of these once. Reckon it would have been a total hoot:

Instead it will get lumpy, bangy and unrefined ;D

Although if it sounded like a nice V-twin.. which it won't, of course.

Have you ever been out in the Morgan three wheeler? If not and PH do another Sunday Service at the factory then I'd say you really should .. I, er, don't fit, but those who do tell me it is an absolute riot.

When we went up it was early spring, air temperature about 8ºC (less with wind chill!) and I went out as a pax in a Speedster Plus 8 with no windscreen and no helmet. Couldn't feel my face by the time we hit 80mph ;D ;D

Definitely not for me give me V6 or V8 any day. We have a 1200 cc Panda that is bad enough.

Probably about as vibration free as a 1964 Triumph Bonneville. :)

A bucket 0f nuts and bolts inside of 20,000 miles.

Apparently Ford are making at least some[if not all future ones]of their engines with plastic sumps :-X

They already have plastic inlets on all their engines, so why the surprise... ???

It's all about weight reduction and, therefore, saving the planet.

That obviously doesn't include the fat bastard behind the wheel. ::) ::)

We have an obesity problem in this country second only to the lard-arsed yanks. :)

It's all about weight  cost reduction and, therefore, saving money.

Corrected that for you.

Plastic inlet manifolds, engine covers and cooling parts have been common for years. Ask a BMW/Ford/K-series/Omega owner how reliable they are.
