Announced at a tree hugger conference today. The banning of all diesel vehicles from Paris, Madrid, Athens and Mexico city by 2025. The article also hints that many other cities are looking at this, including the Mayor of London!
So if you own a tractor, the writing is on the wall on where you will be able to drive it.

Introducing Euro6 as a minimum standard would be effective enough as a short term restriction, and Euro 7 would be the same as a ban in the longer term...

But they're greeeeeener!!!! Shock, horror. ::)
My gripe with everything in the Auto world isn't the rules they make, as such, it's the moving of goalposts. Buy diesel, it's greener. Now don't, we're banning them.
Whole engines, drivetrains, platforms etc have very short lifespans these days. Partly from higher pedantic standards of Motoring Journalists and partly because of ever-more stringent legislation. What is green about completely re-designing a whole engine once every 5 years vs eg: the CIH straight 6 used by Opel in the late 60s right up until the end of Carlton/Senny days in 1994. (and it was, of course legislation that eventually killed that powerplant off replaced by an engine which is, let's make no bones, less tuneable, more fragile, harder to service and only produced about the same power/torque figures relative to displacement)
Green is good. It is, of course it is, it's our only planet. I'm just one of those people who feel that some clever sod high up has managed to train a generation that it's better to buy a new thing once every few mins that's got 'green' credentials, than once thing, look after it, and keep it until it breaks/a lifetime.

Can't imagine why I'd want to drive one anywhere other than "Across a field". ;)
With small DI petrol engines, hybrids and EVs gaining traction, and tractor emissions being exposed as a big con, the stinking things can't have much longer.
The mistake that brought them popularity in the first place was the myopia that "all that matters is CO2".

That would be the approach, rather than all out ban, yes. :)
Can't see all construction traffic using milk floats to being in materials to London ::)
Euro 6 from 2025, Euro7 2030 and so on.
I'm not fussed, I doubt I would have the VW in 2025. :)

A blown Chevvy big block running LPG would give most truck engines a good kick up the arse...
-
I wonder if my WVO car could get an exemption ? I doubt it somehow. >:(
-
I suspect rather than a ban, it will be a massive charge to use it.
I can see Oxford wanting this, and inside the M25 wont be far off either.
-
Inside the M25 will be as early as next year, if the London mayor has his way.
-
No problem I'll swop the Hyundai 4x4 diesel for a petrol Jeep, always fancied the V8 one. 😉
-
Iv known it for years that diesels pollute a hell of a lot more than petrol engines do....
I drive a diesel volvo V70, hate the ruddy thing, but its very good at towing the tintent :)
-
I'm with you on that, DBG. Look at how long-lived the original Morris Minor engine was, with only two major changes in its long lifespan: firstly from sidevalve to OHV and then from conventional gearbox toincorporated gearbox, as per the \mini, eventually.

Who would want to drive in Madrid or London? ;D

I'm with Dr G on this one,all I need is the LPG and I'm good to go ;)

Americans could buy Isuzu NQRs with small blocks. My old boss refused to buy us one.

I never bought into the 'drive for derv'
Why would anybody want to buy a car that runs on fuel designed for agricultural vehicles. ;)
Death to derv. :y ;D ;D :D

Bastid of the highest order...
...And an idiot as the fuel saving and maintenance costs would have more than paid for it ::)

About the same actually, he did look into it. Mechanically NQRs are pretty good, at 400k miles, the only major mechanical failure the one I used had was a headgasket and radiator at about 300k. Bottom end, gearbox and axle were untouched. We had several, and they were all similar. It's the rest of the truck that wears out; the body, electrical systems and interior are pretty flimsy. But they are cheap. Import costs and registration paperwork, plus having to pay for it upfront ruled out a V8.

Fair dos then...
At least he considered it ;)
