ok, ive cut into unit and can see the CB and the BATTS, ive ordered 2 new batts. £23 with the del. the circuit board does look like its seen better days but i believe its still workable. now the next problem is that 2 of the pins of each batt face each other with about 1 mm space, how the dickins am i supposed to solder that? well i want to replace this unit as i also understand that not to do so will invalidate the insurance, so hopefully i will have this back in within a day or two. anyone got any clues on how to solder these bad boys in. les

They're not a serviceable part, so a replacement is the way to go. Removing it is a safer solution.

Power sounder,
Step 1 remove
Step 2 throw unit in bin
Step 3 don't replace it.

Its a sealed unit, so the PCB should look almost like new, unless the batteries have leaked and dumped its load all over the place, in which case your on a hiding to nowhere.

Check it in the bin, theres more chance the Insurance Co will be paying you pittance when the car catches fire due to the power sounder than if the car gets stolen.

Indeed, remove and bin it. You've already said the PCB is damaged.

If you MUST have a powersounder, replace the entire unit.
