yes ..... they don't have a good reputation ;)
-
Passed my test in 2001 Y plate 1.0 3 pot.
Bloody awful thing!
-
Yes they are awful my sons girlfriend had one , he had a 1.2 a while back which was ok.
-
well them comments have burst my bubble ;D ;D ;D looking for the low insurance stuff for son...

Both engine are trouble free is you change the oil (listen for chain rattle at start up).
I have replaced the odd water pump but they just keep going.
1.0 is obviously down on power but pretty good around town and mega economical.
-
The lads got a 54 plate 1.3 cdti
Pretty good on fuel if driven properly
Injectors rattle there tits off when cold but a little 2 stroke every now and then in the diesel makes a difference (thanks Mark :-*)
Much better when warmed up :y
As said, parts cheap as chips because they are thousands about.
Oil change twice a year regardless of millage :y
The cdti is surprisingly nippy around town and on a A road run when the blower is blowing :y :y

SWMBO had a 1.4 found it underpowered . . . but have driven the 1.2 version a few times & that seems really lively . . . would def recommend the 1.2 over the 1.4 :y

Son-in-law had a 52 plate Corsa 1.2 SXi until he sold it last year. He is not mechanically minded so he never touched it, just drove it until something needed fixing. I replaced some bits on it, general servicing, water pump and belt, couple of track rod ends, handbrake cable rear sections and the usual tyres, exhaust and battery. It served him well and never let him down. He sold it to his mate and it's still running fine now. :y

Well needs to be low on the insurance groups... So im down to 3 cars....Corsa's.... Astra 1.4 03 plate.... polo 1.2 02 plate

Bit racey for you, student, your poor mum must had been having kittens ;D
Joking aside, not a bad car to abuse, but unrefined, noisy (more annoying than loud), and slow.

I see the 1.2 is a timing chain job...is it a easy job ? Do you need the locking kit ?
-
Got one :y Its a cracker ;D ;D ;D ;D

1.0, 1.2 and later 1.4s are all chain, no need to do anything to them if they are serviced well.
Not that hard to do but best to remove the sump or they tend to leak at the bottom of the chain cover.

This one Blew its HG @100 000 And the chain was starting to rattle...Head got skimmed new thicker HG ..new bolts and a chain kit put on it...And it sounds so sweet :y Its a 1.2 on a 04 plate...That should do him for getting around Leicester.

I have a 1.2 on a 04 plate and it does a perfectly good job of getting about. Bought it in advance for my daughter to have when she passes her test. There's a list of standard faults all of which are an easy fix and all have happened to mine despite only 59K on the clock.
Timing chain rattle
Throttle body pipe stub on cylinder head shearing - why they made it out of plastic I don't know, replacements are brass.
Leak through wiring/fuse box on n/s of scuttle
Windscreen wiper motor array seizing up
Has had both lower wishbones done and I did the coil pack last week.
All jobs dead easy
Engine is a bit manic on the motorway because of silly gearing, the driving position is rotten unless you have height adjustable seats but it's a good simple basic cheap runabout and surprisingly tough.
