Title: 2.6 fuel pump
Post by: star_whites on 14 December 2016, 23:26:35
I've just bought the fuel pump in the attached link for my 2.6 estate, I didn't read the listing properly as was recommended to me and was being lazy but it doesn't say it's for a 2.6.

Will this still be ok, only thing that appears different from what I remember is the wiring connector. The new pump has a proper connector that would need splicing into the old wiring but it looks the same. Can anyone verify that this will do the job before I go and change it tomorrow??

Well I've used my last holiday day to fit the new pump (which meant going to work as it was parked in the workshops) but unfortunately this pump does not fit the 2.6 it's way to small. It shorter and narrower so it just flops about in the cradle.

I ran the original directly from the battery and cleared it of any possible blockage, rebuilt and it fired straight away so the fault is definatley with the pump. As it was running I chucked all my tools back in the car and took the risk to drive her home so I can spend longer working on her if I need too. She did the 11 miles without skipping a beat. Parked her on drive, turned off gave her a minute and fired straight back up. I'm now going to let her go completely cold and try her again, I'm thinking the pump can't handle being under pressure when cold.

Has the crank sensor recently failed?

Yes the crank sensor has been replaced when the problem started but did not cure the no fuel to the engine, the only way it got girl was after I removed the pump and put a direct feed to it, once refitted the car would run first turn of the key. Stop the car and let it cool then same fault would return. Carry out same procedure and car would start.
