I have been to the tip twice this week, each time ive sat in the queue for 1/2hr :(
I deliberately waited until this week, as I was assuming most people are back at work :-\
So I can see the temptation of fly tipping if you don't want to wait in the queue!
The junk room is looking emptier now ;D
One combi oven (knackered)
One upright vacuum cleaner (working but too heavy and cumbersome)
One 14" CRT Sony TV (working)
One Sony VHS player (working)
One DVD player (working)
Pair of wifi speakers (working, but rechargeable batteries knackered)
One DVD/HD recorder (knackered)
Still more to go but its a start ;D
One thing that did surprise me a bit, was the container for the TV's, just full of flat panels, no other CRT in sight! Some of them were really big as well, that you just know cost £1000's a few years ago :o
-
no other CRT in sight!
That's because most people dumped them 15 years ago :P ;D

My back has never been the same since, either!

Ignoring the 2 scopes I had in the old garage, I've not had a CRT anything here for 10+ years

Actually, that's 'dangle berries'. I had that big heavy Sony in the dining room to hide the moth damaged carpet. Got rid of that at same time garage went.
And have a portable telly in spare bedroom.
So I lied. I still have a CRT telly in the house ;D

Mine has probably sat in the junk room for 10 years or so.....it just irks me to throw something away that works ::)

Well I am going to be controversial now( no change there then). ;D
half an hour wait And that is a problem? Book? Conversation with your passenger. Chill to some music.
Half that stuff might have sold on Ebay or gumtree . Or been given away on Freecycle to a good home.
We do live in a throw away , now society.
I thought you were going to say when you got to the actual tipping area a jobsworth said "you are in a van, can't take a brick it is building rubble, can't take a tyre " type comment. Now that sort of thing makes my blood boil. I helped a friend empty a flat in leicester last year. On the Friday took some stuff to the tip by car. Asked Mr Bouncer " can I bring a double bed down on Monday in a Luton van?" yes he said. Hired a van and took stuff to a car boot . On the Monday took a bed and a small bedside table to tip. Same Mr Jobsworth Bouncer said " No Vans. " till I reminded him what he had said on the Friday.

I can't be arsed with the retards that frequent those sites, its usually less hassle to spend ages making out you live in a different town at our nearest dump (different county, so they don't allow Brackley boys in).

There are some time wasters on Freecycle as well.
When I moved from London I needed to empty my office that I had been in for many years, selling or even giving would have taken ages. I had great fun with an electric saw hacking desks etc into pieces for the dump. Even after some interest on OOF I ended up dumping quite a pile of very good Dexion racking. Selling etc sounds all very well, but not always the quickest and easiest way to just get rid of stuff.

Queuing 30minutes at the tip to get rid of junk is far less frustrating than trying to sell it. Any advert for cheap stuff is an open invitation for all the nutters, cheapskates and other time wasters to come to your house and waste oppsing hours of your time.
-
Left some wooden posts on a job under the hedge , ready to be fitted next day. Gone.
Decorator left paint covered dust sheets at the same location under the stairs, Gone.
Someone once said, if you want to get rid of stuff, leave it at the end of the driveway with a "for sale" sign on it.
-
Yep best way to move stuff :y ;D
-
Our tip is pretty good, they'll take pretty much anything from tyres and oil to chunks of bodywork...
All depends on the council I guess :-\
-
I leave stuff on the front lawn, gone in an hour, don't need to go down the tip ;)

Can TB park his battlebus there, please? :)

No problem :y

My local tip leave me alone these days after I had a go at them for stealing stuff off their employer....
I swear they see me and walk away.... I just get on with dumping crap into the various bins that are full of other peoples crap... I mainly use the 'Non Recycleable' bin... for almost everything, coz I can't be arsed walking with the crap....
The 'employees' just leave me to it....

More detail please, minifreak - I want to tame our Jobsworths! :y 8)
Ron.

I have experienced a bit of jobsworthery at Witham tip too. Having said that, the woman who used to be in charge of Sudbury tip was undoubtedly the great granddaughter of Hitler. She had to be seen & heard to be believed. ::)
-
The guys at our local tip couldn't be more helpful. If you turn up with heavy items, they will offer to help you carry them.
-
Tis the tumbleweed season & I`ve spotted several.
Tinsel still adorns mine dumped carefully concealed in the waste skip at work :-[
-
The fellas at Bracknell would helpful, polite .. might occasionally prompt you to put something in a different 'bin' but beside that nice guys and would help with heavy stuff etc.
Northampton .. well, we took a bunch of black bags of stuff to one tip here (spring cleaning!) and after the fourth bag or so the woman manning the 'non recyclables' bit was opening them to rifle through and see what we were binning and if it was recyclable ffs!

Same where I am, but they are strict as hell about using correct skips for things.

I thought Wales was one big skip :-\

You're confused. It's just the sheep that do the skipping ::)

Really? Fascinating. I thought sheep just ran away...very quickly. ;D

Surely not - how can they run away with their hind legs stuffed in someone's green wellies?
Ron.

They run away to try to avoid that situation, Ron. There aren't many fat sheepshaggers, you know, they're pretty nimble. ;D

When i helped a friend of mine get rid of a sofa.she lived almost next door to the tip so we carried it accross.they wouldnt let us put it in because they told us we were only allowed in in a vehicle, not on foot.they told us to hire a van to bring it in ! .we pretended it was too heavy to lift anymore so they let us leave it Eventually but wernt happy!

Bleeding Jobsworths. >:( >:( >:(

Hired a van last week to empty the remaining contents from my girlfriends house (some to come here, some to the tip).. it would have been helpful if she'd told us that when the sofa was delivered they had to take the window out to get it in.
Good job we had saws with us ;D came out in little pieces. Did make it much easier to carry up the ramps to the giant skips at the tip, though! ;D ;D

When we moved my youngest to Glastonbury some years ago one item we took was a double sofa bed. We had a hell of a struggle getting it up two flights of stairs and into the flat. When we moved him back a year later he had ripped it apart and chucked it out of his bedroom window into the big communal skips below. Bet the neighbours wondered what the hell was flying down past their windows. ;D
