Hy guys, I know V6 can have some mayo in filler neck in winter time but this much? :(
I had quite a few short runs this month...having cam cover leak again after two years and I suspect HBV is leaking again (coolant under transmission when parked).
Anyone else had that amount of mayo in filler neck?

Looks about the same as my 3,0v6. Temperatures here has been aroun -10 to -15c and i have only done 16km trips to work. So im not worried about it.

Same temperatures here....well I hope it's nothing else, thanks Monza

Check if it's clean on the dipstick :)

Oil on the dipstick is clean, no mayo there

Can't be oil cooler or HG then :y
Least you can unclip the filler neck to clean it out if you wanted.

Can I remove filler neck and drive with cap directly on cam cover?

You can, although the filler neck gives the mayo somewhere neutral to collect... remove, clean and refit... repeat once a week or do longer journeys ;)

I suspect that, if you don't give it anywhere cool to collect, it will evaporate off the hot oil and get6 drawn through the breathers. Makes little difference either way as it does no harm in the filler neck.
It's especially worthwhile checking that the breathers are clear in such conditions, though, especially as any crud in them will freeze and block them completely.

Now that you said Kevin, passenger side (UK) cam cover started leaking just when the temparatures were almost -20 :-\ Breathers were cleaned spotless two years ago but could it be the gunk in them that caused the cam cover gasket to fail ?
-
That's usually how it works...
Filler is the highest dead end, but once the covers start to fill up, then it gets everywhere which soon blocks the breathers...
-
Well that's really nice... :-X >:( part of omega relationship I guess ???
I will clean the filler neck and refit it I'm going on motorway tommorow morning, will ckeck for a gunk afterward
-
Yup...
Only a handful of things that fail... hbv/camcover gaskets/breathers/wishbones/crank sensors/header tanks...
Treat them as service items and the thing should last indefinitely :y
-
I learned to live with that ;D ...like I have a choice, right? Gasket will wait untill warmer weather for now.
Thanks guys :y

Looks like the same amount of gunk as in mine here in the UK where it's cold but not as cold as Central Europe. All down to the short runs I do to work (too lazy to get on me bike). I cleaned mine out the other week before a good motorway run to Stansted and back - I checked it the next day and it was as clean as a whistle :).

danzigfan, that's quite normal.
I had roughly that amount of mayo in filler neck, back in the days when it was still on the car.
I've removed it 5 years ago - no problems ever.

I will keep the filler neck for now Bojan and I will take a look now into small breather hoses on the top of the plenum to see if there's any gunk inside. Thanks

Yep, a good motorway run will help, as the sustained high revs will heat the oil up, ensure some airflow through the breathers and also fling plenty of oil up into the filler pipe to clean it!
