My TD heater could be hotter, and clearly needs a flush, (The rad had a good flush through about 18 months ago while it was off), but I CBA at this time of year to remove pipes to do it properly. Can anyone recommend a good product to put in the system for a few days to remove some of the gunge. Or shall I just buy one of the "Mask the problems and sell your car" products from the factors? :-\ :y

I flushed my heater the other week, then filled the matrix with anti-freeze before re-assembly, filled it from the bottom inlet, slow process, but heater is still toastey hot. :y

Once of those jobs best done right ;)

Of course, see CBA ::)

Best wait until spring then... job for when you're waiting for the pitch and putt to dry out :D
-
Well I intend to do exactly that. However I am looking for something that will give me a little more warmth in the cold weather in the interim. :y
-
Hot water bottle or a nice blanket maybe :-\ :D :D

Thanks for all the suggestions, none of which, unfortunately, addressed my original question.
However, thanks to those who took the time to reply. :y

Calgon tablets? Wouldn't like to say what the long term effects might be though :-\
For automotive products, Wynns coolant flush could be worth a go, but read the label carefully. Also be prepared for the heater to get worse as it's a bit of a bottle neck, hence the suggestion to do it properly :y

Might be worth trying a domestic heating system descaler from Fernox (or similar)
Be very careful to check that whatever you use is suitable for use with aluminium. Also make sure that you don't leave it in for too long

At the end of the day Chris, it doesn't matter what you put the system unless the crap you manage to break up is flushed out :(
For the record, Fernox works a treat if left in there for a day or two :y
If / when you get around to doing the job, pour the fernox in and go for a slow drive to get it hot.
When dumping the fernox, sieve it slowly threw a pair of those old tights you used to wear under your flying suit to remove some of the silt then stick it back in the system for another go :y
2 or 3 cycles should make a difference :y :y
Until then, its hot water bottle and blanket time ;)

No secret here .. at -15C and 02:30 on a dark and windy night, pair of tights + long johns + flying suit was the order of the day ... RAF, in its wisdom, gave you a lovely cold weather parka that was toasty as hell ... from mid-thigh up ..... the lower extremities seemed to be ignored .. so it was a case of ... "needs must" .. then once airborne and the heating sorted, pop down the back and remove a layer or two ... 14 hours later, in the descent to destination it "might" be a requirement to pop down the back again and put it all back on .. depending on the forecast at said destination !! :) :)

I guess I was lucky, I never had to resort to tights, even on Shacks, where the heaters were about as reliable as Omega hbv's, out of Kinloss in mid-winter. Long johns and a flask of hot soup helped. :y

Didn't you pop outside and start it up and let it idle for an hour or two to warm up while you drank coffee inside in the warm ::) ;D

I know what you mean about those parkers :y :y
I had a DP jacket made / issued in 1958 :o
One of the quilted ones which I used on the line in winter.
It was faded and falling apart but i'd have killed anybody who tried to nick it ;D

The Shack had quite a good galley. If lucky as on my first Squadron, one of the Siggy's was a dedicated cook, and we protected him from any technical work due to the superb food he dished up. When the Cat board (Command Categorisation Unit, affectionately(not >:() known as Trappers) arrived for its annual visit, he was hidden so that he didn't get trapped. :y

is this what i need to do to ours? theres little to no heat at all coming out of any vent, the pipes that go towards the bulkhead are both hot, but i can hold them, the blower works fine.. worth a try ?

Might also be that the control arms have popped off... In the Maintenance guides :y
