Title: Our nuclear deterrent
Post by: STEMO on 22 January 2017, 13:03:34
...doesn't like the Donald either. Apparently, on a test fire,  it developed a mind of its own and headed straight for America.  :)
Or perhaps Putin has hacked our weapons systems........who knows?

Its all those cheep Chinese components that the yanks have been using for a few years.

Iirc, they was a big internal kick off about it a few years ago and changes was made  ;)

Tbh, all the missiles are services at a central point in the good old US of A and are withdrawn from the same stack that the yanks use.
The only option we get is how many / which packages are in the top  ;)

I wonder if this is exactly why we have "test firings"? ;)

 ;D ;D

I believe we estimate that 1 in 10 of ours wont work anyway  ;D

Much better then the Russians latest incarnation which iirc has upto a 50% failure rate  :o :o

With a bit of luck Teresa will tell the muppets its a "need to know" only and too piss off  :y :y

Most are pretty elderly. One could easily fly in the wrong direction and wipe out a northern town or two, like Barnsley or Wakefield.

Would this be such a bad thing?

If our Missile was heading for Trump Land, then CIA probably hacked into it.

It was merely a test firing. Non-nuclear and non-ballistic.

The missile electronics detected a fault, went into failsafe mode and ditched itself in the sea, just like it is supposed to do.

I'm glad they found the fault now, so it can be rectified.

During the four minute warning, people would be paying back the money they'd borrowed.

Everybody has had experience  of a dud firework , when it should go "whizz bang" it just goes "phutt" the only difference is that this missile costs rather more than a standard firework rocket. ah well sh*t happens back to the drawing board :-[ ;)

Thing is, if we've got the point of launching our Nuclear deterrent, there's a pretty high chance that all the other countries in the Nuclear club are getting to the same conclusion.... so in an all out situation it probably doesn't really matter which direction they go in!!  ;D

Not really sure what the Times is playing at - the nuclear deterrent relies on a perception that it is effective and that we are willing to use it. RT etc are all over this and the only thing it is damaging is the credibility of the UK on the international stage.

Trident is a complex system and if we test it sometimes it won't work, but thats not something to shout about!

Didn't this missile go a bit wrong back in June...? and it got covered up coz there was some sort of election/political thing going on at the time...?

Never really covered up  ::)

The debate was whether to replace the submarines  ;)
NOT the weapon system carried by them  :)

Its just a case of the press muppets actually believe that they should be told EVERYTHING  ::) ;D ;D ;D

Put it this way ................ If the government of the day told the British people EVERYTHING, people would be rioting in the streets because they are incapable of understanding how things work in the real world  ::)

Things like this should be on a strictly Need To Know bases and the general population don't knew to know  ::)

Unfortunately the press and populous these days believe they have the right to know everything, about everyone, right down to what time this morning Theresa May took a dump.

I reckon WWII would have ended very differently with todays press in charge..

The misfire happened just before a vote in parliament about the replacement of the submarines that carry the weapon.
All the lefty tree huggers are all whining because they wasn't told while the debate was going on  :)

It now sounds like Obama asked Cameron so keep it quite because (allegedly) it was a yank cockup which caused it to veer off course  ::)

Back in the 60's Blue Steel (our stand off missile) was appalling, if it didn't explode while being filled with fuel on the ground 50% of them failed to launch successfully. However Avro and the MOD told everyone it worked well and showed some successful test footage. So the USSR believed it worked and we had deterrence.  :y

After all, you only need someone to believe that there's a risk that it might work. ;)

Indeed. He stood up in the commons today to offer his condolences "to the family of the Police officer shot dead in Belfast at the weekend".
Two problems with that. Firstly, the officer isn't dead. Secondly, the hypocrisy was staggering, coming from a lifelong supporter of the IRA.
He has two by elections to fight in the near future. Labour held both seats, but they will probably lose Stoke (Labour since god was a boy) to UKIP (alternatively UKIP are probably finished if they don't win it), and the Tories may well win the other.
Unfortunately, that could be the end of Corbyns leadership. I would like him to stay in that job for the rest of my life.

We could all do with the useless arse that is Corbyn going as whilst he is there then there is no effective opposition.

No matter which side you vote for, an effective opposition is key to making such a governing setup work

What's worse, I can't see anyone lined up to provide said opposition when he finally gets the chop either. :-\

It will be interesting to see if he survives the two 'safe' byelections in the near future. ::) ::) ::)
