Title: Play in box when wheels turned in
Post by: grifter on 23 January 2017, 21:10:56
When I was doing some of the front end work the other day I checked on straight ahead there was no play in any of the suspension components but when I turned wheels about half way in there was a about half a centimetre play at the road wheel side to side from the box, there was distinct clunk from it. I could see it was the box and not a component down the line.

Is this normal for steering boxes? I'd heard that power steering can have play when engine not on.

I'd say so. They are deliberately tighter around the straight ahead position and the hydraulics take up some of the play once the engine is running too.
