Doctors are now being told that they shouldn't term pregnant women as mothers as it may upset the transgender group :o It's going from the sublime to the ridiculous :-X
-
Here's another one that you may have missed
Firstly, I need to be clear that I personally do not hold any strong religious views
Summary:
A church in Glasgow invited local Muslims to read from the Qur'an in Arabic as part of a "bridge building" excercise during celebration of the Epiphany.
A student carried out the reading, which included a passage that stated that Jesus was NOT the son of God, which is exactly what Epiphany is about.
Reverend Ashenden who was a chaplain to the queen spoke out against this
. . . and was pressured into quiting as Queens Chaplain.
Just what are some people thinking ? Would a local Imam permit a Bible reading at an important religeous event ?
Also, this news item seems to have been tucked away a bit, but maybe I read the wrong papers
THIS IS NUTS (http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/15040861.Royal_chaplain_quits_in_Koran_row/)

Also rights for pig/human embryos? Who knows.

Now perhaps you begin to understand where Donald is coming from and how he came to be elected...
Watch this little lot and you'll begin to see that using religion for control predates the Egyptians, plus several other insights :y

For a brief insight to the above... some smaller, lectures by the creator of the concept...

I would suggest watching the three films before the lectures

Well, IMHO, they shouldn't be classed mothers until the lump of uselessness drops out anyway, but that goes against the current namby-pamby tide...

Religion was one of the great ways of controlling the populous, which is a necessity. The other is dictatorship.
I guess we all need to quietly consider the pros and cons of each...
-
Exactly, TB!
Before we had a police force, it was the only way of keeping control, and certainly a cheaper way: all they had to do was threaten eternal flames and people complied. All churches are businesses (especially the Catholics) and need to recruit people for revenue.

Agreed. I can't recall any UK PM or US President declaring themselves to be atheist for fear of alienating voters. And in less educated times the fear of "burning in hell" or some other imaginary consequence was used by the church to subjugate the masses, and it still is to a considerable extent. The suicide bomber does so with the belief of some imaginary after-life. The Papacy still holds sway over millions with all sorts of fairy tales. And, such is the power of religions that even now governments dare not deny them.
Never discuss religion or politics they say. Probably true. :-X

You said roughly what I said, Mister Rog, only more eloquently! The basic reason why people believe in the religious teaching is wishful thinking - they do not want to believe that this life is all they get!

Yes. Claptrap, all of it. I might consider repenting a bit just before I pop my clogs though. Nowt wrong with a bit of free insurance. ;D

I look at political correctness as a form of bullying and it must therefore be resisted. :y
Therefore, I will refer to pregnancy as 'mothers to be' from now on. :y

All this PC crap from pregnant persons / children being encouraged by the state to begin the process of changing sex / lavatories now becoming labelled "urinals & cubicles, rather than ladies & gents etc. etc. is I believe modern Marxism, and always perpetuated by those on the left.
Old fashioned communism in all its guises, brainwashed people that families are an evil concept, and that the state is actually their family. Hence everyone is everyone elses comrade.
As TB says the masses are either controlled by religion or dictatorship. If you outlaw religion (as most communist blocs did) then convince people to give the same loyalty to the state as they used to give their families, then you have total control - for a while at least.
I think all this PC nonsense is a different, more subtle approach to bring about the same thing. The breakdown of much of the society which we have known for centuries.
The reason it doesn't work long term is that human nature needs a reasonable degree of individual freedom of thought and expression, and people see through it in the end.
Hence Brexit, Trump, the rebellion by people across the western world against the political elite.
Many people may not be able to articulate exactly what is wrong, but they know in their bones they are being stitched up from all angles by those who rule over them, and want to change things.
They may be currently changing those in charge with less than ideal replacements, but in the longer term that may not mater too much, if things start to head generally in the right direction.
Time will tell.
