Title: NHS Day Surgery
Post by: 2boxerdogs on 03 February 2017, 12:39:47
Well had my Gall bladder removed yesterday at Peterborough City Hospital, I can honestly say they were excellent all the operating staff introduced themselves to me the unit was absolutely pristine. My recovery was constantly monitored as being diabetic there were some concerns, home on painkillers but only feels like a punch in the gut no driving for 7 days so being driven by wifey if needed . Personally  I think the service I received was fantastic, totally the opposite to most stories you hear.

NHS bashing has become a bit of a national passtime. I still think it's one of the best health services in the World.

The main problems are related to adminstration, and without doubt the NHS is incredibly wasteful. Sometime jawdroppingly wasteful. The biggest problem in recent years has not been "cuts" but the increase in demand, AND quite a few bad and overpaid senior managers. Lets not forget PFI, the zillions paid every year due to bad overpaid managers failing to secure good, sensible, and fair PFI deals.

PFI was not exclusively down to Labour, but I always recall a certain G Brown crowing on TV about how the government had just approved funding for a new hospital, what he'd actually done was given approval for another crap PFI deal to build a new hospital.

After knowing how they dealt with Maureens various stays in hospital I'd have to agree with both Tilbo and Mister Rog's statements. The NHS is a fine institution even though flawed.
Get well soon Tilbo.

Thanks guys, sitting in my old man's chair at the moment can't manage the low leather suite, good that others have good things to say about the NHS.

How are you feeling today?

A lot better thanks, advised me not to shower for 48 hours so I was glad to get in there today! Changed the dressings looks like 4 little stab wounds, more uncomfortable than painful they inflate your gut to separate the organs, trouble is the air takes a while to disperse, feels like you have eaten concrete.

Had mine done about 3 years ago and NHS service and recovery was handled very well.

Nasty bit was having the drain removed at hospital made me feel a tad weezie and at out patients having the staples removed from my belly button.

3 weeks later and back to normal although change of diet.Hope your recovery goes well :y

Thanks, no staples for me just dissolving stitches & fortunately no drain either so unless I get an infection should be good to go in about 10 days.
