Bought one of these a few years ago from Lidl/Aldi (carnt remember which one) after someone posted on here about them
Its now broke :( Turn it on and it goes into standby mode...press the button to select 12V and car battery and nothing happens, it remains in standby mode...
It was about £15 iirc....
So any suggestions for a replacement....searched Aldi/Lidl and cannot find anything similar......don't want to spend much as its for a leisure battery which I may/may not (most probable) use again....

Being a tight bastard I'd take it back to Lidl or Aldi and ask for a refund or replacement.
They can only say no .......but may say yes. :y

Yes definitely take it back, our local one has never argued when returning products.

That would be brave....considering it probably only had a 1 year warranty...and with no receipt or box it came in....plus seeing as they don't seem to sell them anymore.....Lidl or Aldi.....and you could end up looking a complete twonk, if the store you picked on said 'never ever sold these....your in the wrong shop" ::)

Parkside is lidl, the other brand I cant remember is aldi.

BTW, I've never had a smart charger that's even remotely any good or reliable. That includes ctek, optimate and the Halfords rebadged Ring.

What do you use then Jaime.....as Ive told that an ordinary battery charger will not charge the battery fully :-\

At the moment, a mate's el cheapo, basic, old fashioned one on trickle setting. That's because I'm without one, having taken my last Halfords one back for about the 5th time, so got a refund this time.
I'm tempted to go old fashioned, as none of the smart ones I've used have been remotely smart. The ctek/optimates always end up flattening the battery rather than keeping topped up. The Halfords one is superb for the few weeks it works, by far the best of the lot, but just won't last.
Tempted by the more upmarket Ring smart charger, as gets good reviews (but by idiots probably), but that cant charger a flat battery.

Still use my old charger from the early eighties, complete with 6V / 12V selector switch.
Some so called smart appliances are as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike :)

Mine got a lot of use, even when I had technically better ones about.
But its still somewhere in orbit :'(

You've got it attached to a battery yes? Does the battery register a voltage on a DMM over ~10v? Cos if it's flat as a pancake the smart charger will just sit there like a lemon. If this is the case try paralleling up a known good battery and see if it chooches.
Failing that give it to someone with some electrical knowledge. It's probably fixable.

Most "smart" (hate that term!) chargers pulse-charge the battery so that they can check the state of charge between pulses, and that is likely to upset the various ECUs in the car, necessitating the removal of the battery connections to charge it in isolation.
Not a big problem, just a chore, especially as it requires you to recode the radio, etc., afterwards. I use a 13.8 volt regulated power supply: I KNOW that it will not bulk charge the battery, KW, but it ensures a successful start and the alternator does the rest of the job!

had a fancy Ring handbag shape one, lots of nice features like 'revive', lasted year and one month >:(
i've had 3 halfords fully automatic chargers for 15 years all still going strong. however they don't look like the latest halfords one - which looks handbag shaped and suspiciously like a re-branded Ring.
also have a sealey smart inverter charger for 9 years that is still good. watch out they do two similar models one is not suitable for sealed bats. this one does sealed:

Most shops don't quibble much these days.
Most people who work in shops want the easy life.
They really don't care as it will all be on sale or return. Been there done that with various UK and ROW multiples and it is part of their standard T & C's if you want to do business with them. If you think that is tough, you've never dealt with US retailers, where you pay for them to stock it.
The advantage is that if you have the right product at the right price in the right place, they shift big volumes, did I mention they shift BIG volumes, although it will mostly be at very low margins, but every little helps, when it comes to annual profits.
Direct sales are always best with big margins but they will always be at very low volumes.

Are you sure its broke, the Lidl ones where not chargers but conditioners, they wouldn't charge or do anything if the Battery was flat (below 10v from memory).
