Title: Another fridge problem..
Post by: Terbs on 17 February 2017, 14:10:59
Hi all....
Our fridge has not stopped working...its working to well !!! Its just blown up 6 cans of coke , 4 bottles of beer, and a bottle of wine has turned into an ice cube. The explosion must have been immense, it blew the door open and blasted booze everywhere. The cans where blown apart, as were the bottles.
Tried altering the dial inside and its blown another couple of cans up.
Any ideas what's causing it ???

Be careful what you wish for; I had a Peltier-effect cold box that did that - blew the lid off!
Surely it can only be the thermostat, although it may not be an easy job to replace. I hope to be wrong, so good luck.  ::)

I had the same problem last year with my Fridge/Freezer Tony and a new thermostat solved it.  :y

Or so I thought........... as when I got back from my hols, the few beers, marg and mayo that I'd left in there were frozen solid.  :(  I've turned the thermostat knob up and down a few times and it seems to be OK for now....  :-\

Yep, happened to our 'fridge a year or two back. Bought a thermostat quite cheaply online and it's been fine since.

Its a Bosch fridge, not new but not very old either. Are they easy to fit, or is it 'new fridge time'

Easy fit Tony and plenty of 'How to videos' on YouTube.  :)

IIRC my thermostat cost about £30.  :y

You could try the time-honoured engineering solution of giving the thermostat a whack after BG's suggestion!   :o :y

Was the brand of the beer 'Rocket' as that tends to explode and take off?  ::)

Beer in the 'fridge.

I don't know. I think this is just bad karma arising from your poor choices in the booze aisle. ::)

I was hoping it was real beer, such as St Ella, rather than that treacle juice you drink Mr Wood :P

Actually, it was Speckled Hen, Spitfire, Stowford Press, Magners, Hob Goblin, San Miguel, and Coke, and White Wine (Pinot Grigio) :)

It will more than likely be the thermostat but before you change it just check that the interior light goes out when you close the door.i know it sounds daft but this has a major influence on the temperature that the thermostat is trying to reach inside. Some fridges have a switch which brings this light on at a reduced brightness to compensate for a room temperature below 16deg and some have a dedicated 'fast freeze' switch also to acheive a similar thing.
