Title: Relays clicking, very quickly
Post by: Dollywobbler on 19 February 2017, 17:37:31
I've noticed in my Omega that when it's wet, I get a frantic relay click from the main fusebox if I go over a bump, corner quickly or brake fairly hard. It's not something I've been able to replicate with the car stationary and the fusebox open, so I've no idea which one it is. Anyone else had this? Nothing seems to not be working when it happens. Car has Xenons if that makes a difference.

Everything electrical seems to work bar the driver's heated seat. All fuses check out.

Do you feel it through the brake pedal? If so, could be the ABS. :-\

Nope. Not ABS. Pedal feels entirely normal. It is just a relay buzzing - had similar in my old Citroen XM when the indicator stalk contacts got all mucky.

Tin of leccy contact cleaner,  pop them out one at a time and give the pins and sockets a good clean and reseat them properly.
Can't remember if theres a rubber seal on the fusebox lid? If so make sure its in good nick. Also check for holes and cracks letting moisture in:y

Thanks. I need to check contacts generally. The stereo (aftermarket) stopped working for a few days, but was fine after I'd prodded all the fuses. The fusebox is under the steering column though, so I'm hoping damp isn't a problem there. I do live in Wales, but the footwells still seem dry...

Self levelling system trying to keep track of the spring differential...

Not sure about that one. It sounds a lot more like an iffy contact somewhere. Just wondered if there was a common problem area.

The self levelling relay is one of the smaller ones in that location...

But the 'ecu' for it is in the height sensor attached to the offside rear arm... I suspect that you'll find either a loose plug or damaged wiring at the sensor following the spring change ;)

Yep, that's something I was wondering.

I think I would start by removing that relay and see if the noise goes away.

If you're still watching, Dollywobbler, remove self levelling relay (in cabin fusebox), as this has been known to cause a buzz.  If you catch it when it happens, the relay will be hot
