Title: New fuel pump gasket
Post by: terry paget on 25 February 2017, 09:08:43
Haynes did say aways use a new gasket when changing a fuel pump but he would. . Lsat Saturday I refitted the old rather stiff gasket. Now I can smell petrol. Is a new gasket normally necessary? What is the best source?

This the one in the inspection/service hole at top of tank? I've always reused, but obviously inspected it first.

Check the state of the pipes coming out, they can go weak, and start leaking when disturbed.

Thanks. I took the cover plate off today, and found the gasket not in place but fallen down on top of the pump. I placed the gasket carefully at the top of the tank turret, greased the outer edge ot the cover, and pushed it firmly into the gasket. I put the screwed plastic nut on top of the cover, and screwed it on, tightening it with screwdriver and mallet. plugged in socket, attached the 2 pipes, and started engine OK I hope now it's all right.
