Title: 2.5TD Fuel Pump Help

 How many fuel pumps do these cars have? I know there is a lift pump in the tank but is there one on the engine as well?

Yes, the main fuel pump is on the engine, under the EGR. Its driven by the timing chain.

What are they like to replace? PITA?

I've just bought another saloon to replace the one I have as mine unfortunately has been bitten by the tin worm quite badly so I'm going to swap all the good bits off of mine onto this new one but apparently it hardly starts, when it does its smokes a lot.

IMHO, probably easier to swap engine over...   ...that's what I did.
