Anyone know where I can procure some 15w40 should-be-dirt-cheap-unrefined-tractor oil for less than an arm and a dick?
Resent paying actual money for it when I only pay like 5p a litre for 10w40 semi from Vx >:(

I normally work on the basis that anything less than £2 a Litre for Semi or Full is reasonable, but if your getting it for 5p then Im buying it wrong.

If you're that unconcerned about the quality, can't you just use the 10 40?

Exactly, although Semi or Full should be much more expensive than mineral! Cant find 20L of 15w40 for less than £45 though. Must be a price vs demand thing. No one's using it anymore.

10/40 full fat, is just as good, as cheap-O 20/50, viscosity wise., If your that concerned add some Wynn's.

Shouldn't be. That's the whole point of the viscosity rating. The objective is to spend less money not more on snake oil :P

If you have flat tappets and a soft cam will you be adding ZDDP? If not you'll want an oil with a high natural content, so that precludes dumping the cheapest stuff in there (and any Vx oils, I would imagine)..

Nope. Not particularly worried about cam wear. 100k miles and no maintenance from the last owner had done almost no damage to wear faces of the cam/tappets.

Just buy decent stuff yer tight Bastid! :P ;D

Don't think there's any such thing as decent 15w40 mineral oil. It's just unrefined dinosaur squeezings innit bruv. Sure you can buy it in a tin can with a fake handpainted picture of a sports car on it... but it's still the same shit inside. :P
