Thanks. :y
You must be a mind reader. Yesterday we drove many miles with dog and MIL and test drove 3 qashqais having decided an auto would do us nicely. Very dissapointing day.
First car was a plus 2. Loads of dings, missing badge and mileage more than advert . Back seat was uncomfortable for an adult.
Second car was perfect even down to cloth rather than leather seats. Tekna premium2.0 diesel auto drove really well. BUT the MIL couldnt get in the back. Worse neither car could accomodate the wheelchair and two bags of groceries.
Third car was a petrol cvt. rather odd driving experience with engine always racing.
Quite depressing. We have spent the evening and night (it is now 2p.m.) looking at other cars . I just said we might as well just buy a car for a couple of grand to tide us over!
I will sleep on it.

Proper job! :y

Maybe.
Six hours sleep and we are back on the research case. Depressed Jo.

I know prices are different in Spain. But nearly £2k for a 150k Omega?

Suspension wouldn't stand up to what Varche wants to use it for.

Prices secondhand for cars in general are higher here. I could buy in Uk but by the time you have gone there and back and gone thru the hassle of Spanish plates and the "tax" on buying the price would be the same anyway. You have it good not paying tax on sales or purchases.
I dare say five years on with another 50k km and it it will still fetch 4 figures.
Less rust too.
STEMO. No it will be a road car only and I would deliberately avoid whacking overhanging branches. I will keep the 4x4 for dog walks, fetching logs and off road work.
The only question mark is can the MIL get in the back. ::)

No service history so will have to factor in a cambelt change. I wonder where the nearest cambelt party will be! Probably same place as our house painting party.
transfer of ownership tax (paid to Spanish government) is 280 euros. (about £240) !

Wow! :o And we complain about VED! ::) I wonder how long it'll be before DVLA/Govt cotton on to that particular scam. :-\

Hopefully never.
It discourages sales because people keep the car in their name and pass it on down the family only "selling" when they die as you can't own a car if dead! The tax is determined by government book values and not by what you might have sold/bought at. On top of that you are wise to pay a beauracrat to check that there are no fines or loans against the vehicle. So more expense and maybe 3 weeks wait.

Hmm made enquiries and got prepared for a long round trip and the car had gone.
Well suppose it saves me spending all of my spare time on maintenance. ;D
Looking at Passat estate now.
