"bit of filler, bit of paint, bish bash bosh..."

Sadly, getting the paint to smooth into the rest will probably be the trickiest part..

Bodywork isn't one of my strong points, alas..i tend to farm that out..

Doesn't look too bad but paint matching is always the difficult part.  Depends on how handy you are with a spray can really?  Just need to put some q-rust on it, sand back with fine wet and dry paper, fill if necessary, sand again with wet and dry, then spray.

Believe it or not, I am actually pretty good with a spray can.

Do you think it needs new rear bumper?

Bit of T-Cut!  ;D

Nah.. I Would sand it back, then put some rust killer stuff on it (cant think of the name!), and then some filler...

Then sand the filler down until its all smooth. (working your way up to 800 grit wet + dry)

Apply a few coats of primer, then give it a light sanding over with wet + dry (1200 grit ish)

Apply a few coats of paint, then a few coats of laquer if it needs it.

Once thats done, go over it with some t-cut, and then a good old polish!

:y (thats what and how I've done it anyway - dunno if thats the correct way though!)

Make sure that on the flat bits, you use a hard block behind the sand paper.... Ive used a metal bracket thing I found lying about - works a treat!

I use a lump of cork with rounded edges -- nice and firm, but with a little bit of give, so you din't sand out any gouges

You're not far wrong, wash affected panel,T-Cut or a fine rubbing compound on the panel to restore paint then remove rust, treat fill and paint.

I went Auto-paint down here, and they took paint code and knocked up a spray can for £9.

After spraying left it for a week to harden then used rubbing compoundto remove over spray and blend paintwork.,

Nasty when this happens James, but what has been suggested should work well. :y

I would also just check the underside of the arch for any damage to the sealant coating, and repair accordingly to avoid unpleasant rust forming from within later! ;)

I didn't buy it - my top whack was £500 cos the gearbox was sh@gged.... it went to £620.

I noted it needed tyres, needs a new gearbox possibly, and the interior was grubby - I was sticking to my guns, if I couldn't have it for silly money, plenty more out there :y

Yep, very true and that's why in September I may be in the market myself for a 3.2! ;)
