I am looking for a late model 3.2 Estate, preferably manual and white.
Not worried if it's a bit abused or needs some TLC.
I am thinking I may need to go to an auction?
Or Contact a Force directly to ask what the process is?
Any ideas? I am set on 3.2 Ex plod... but want it for the right money!
-
And you ask why?
I recently drove one and, well, compared to the 2.0, it was breathtaking :D

I know James that there are dealers who specialize in bidding for ex-plod cars, and reselling them through Autotrader and the like. :y
But I know no more.

I am thinking that maybe I could go to an auction myself, and cut out the middleman :)

Right! That makes sense.
However, just looked on Google search for "Ex-Police Cars UK" and came up with many contacts; one was:

James,
go to WOMA WEST OXFORDSHIRE MOTOR AUCTIONS, they have a website, i have bought loads of ex plod motors(used to work there)
and never ad a problem with any of them unless it was stated on the auction description, Tunnie has been there, they have police sales twice a month and the prices are good, however be warned you will be biddin against dealers, the advantge you have is you can go higher than them cos thy want to take at least a grand out of the car on resale, so thye wont bid higher that the profit margin allows,
if you have never been before would recommend you go a couple of times to see how it works before bidding!!
fittrf lpg to 2 ex plod senators and both went n to cover over 200,000 miles wothout anything major done to them
Omegatoy
P.S. the most sought after cars are the thames valley as they are always in the best condition and have service history with them, however they do command a premium ove rthe other forces as the dealers know!!
-
I would imagine most of the ex-plod omegas were retired a good while ago. You'll be lucky to see an omega straight from the police, I haven't seen one in service for a couple of years now.
-
Witney auctions, as Omegatoy says.
You can get non white ex-plod, which tend to have better bodywork - something about the plod white paint that isn't up to scratch
-
Do they get many Omegas?

haven't been for 6 months, had 3 or 4 last time. they have a website with next set of lots.

Think I may have to keep an eye on that, then.
What do you reckon the chances are of finding a 3.2 Estate under a grand there?

Don't mind if it needs a bit of work - that's the point behind getting one :y

According to the Thames Valley Police web page:
http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/news_info/departments/transport/transport2.htm
they have 77 marked Omega's still in service :o :o :o.
This could be an out of date web page, but usually these pages are frequently ammended so perhaps not! :-/ :-/

I don't know what the disposal policies are around the country with other forces but up here in Durham they keep the cars a bit longer now, if they still have the same cars on the fleet they keep the old ones for a while to rob parts off them. They don't reach auction in the condition they used to.
-
James,
Here is the website that you need tp look on. It also lists the next auction dates for the police auctions.
http://www.woma.co.uk/police.php
I havejust looked on the site and there are a couple of omegas on there up for Auction but not ex- plod.
