Title: Sport mode 3.2
Post by: laney101 on 07 March 2017, 18:42:49
When engaging sport mode in an omega should it lock out 4th gear and also down shift as revs drop??

In sport it more eager to accelerate but if i boot it and let off revs comes down a bit then just drop to idle as if in normal mode always thought as comes down should downshift for you...

Also once i hit 50/60 will still drop into fourth if steadyish??

 Anyone lend some insight

4th gear is still available.
Basically the ecu drops down earlier with a lighter pedal load and holds on to the lower gear for longer.
Gearbox ECU does adapt to your driving style regardless of the sport button.
In other words, the more you stamp on the pedal, the more often it will change down anyway  ;)

Sounds to me like its behaving as it should. Dont know about 3,2 but at least in my 1994 3,0 sport mode usually makes it shift down a gear when you engage it at speed. It then pulls all the way to the red line before changing gears, and its also more eager to downshift upon accelaration. Will still go to fourth when cruising.

Edit: must type faster:p

Mine doesn't down shift once revs start dropping ..

Say booting it in second do 70-80 ease of gas as revs come down it won't drop to first on its own does same as not in sport drop revs to idle until u engage gas again ???

My dads downshifts in gear as revs are suitable on its own ie easing of revs drop so it mocks it down a gear to keep revs up  3.2 mv6

It wont do because its a old style box with a torque converter  ;)
Once the speed drops then when you boot it, the gearbox will decide which gear is best and drop accordingly.

If you want to lock out 4th, use the lever and put it in 3.

The 3.2 TCM is fairly unrefined, and ultimately its an exec car, not a sports car, so will drop to high gears with limited throttle.
