Title: Looking at getting another car...
Post by: Psychoca on 10 March 2017, 12:46:07
I sadly and unwillingly parted company with my old mig back at the end of 2012 and miss it virtually everyday.  Even now, I find myself looking at mig's when trying to find an affordable (bargain basement) car.

Am I the only one who misses their mig or have some found a suitable replacement...

Your certainly right there Opti, got to be one of the worst looking cars ever just looks so cumbersome why anyone would pay good money for one of those I don't know.

Executives at Porsche must have sat around a table and said "The new car is perfect, lets start production"

Were they visually impaired? ;D

My list of replacements is - BMW e38 740i. Merc CL500. Lexus ls400/430. Jag XJ8. Its probably easier for me because I'm not looking for a newer car than the one I already have.
I need to keep this one a while though, as I have spent a shedload of money on it, that I will never get back if I sell it. This is unfortunate in a way,as due to the fact I'm not looking to buy, I keep seeing cars that are really tempting.  ::) ;D

 :y :y :y for the highlighted cars.

The Lexus is best suited to 'lardarse yanks' who probably weigh almost as much as the car itself.

I'm at the age where I'm attracted by the comfort and all the toys & gadgets.  ;)
They are listed in order of preference btw. I have loved big engine e38,s from afar for a long time. I could even be tempted by a 750i, but the cost of running one would be madness. If I found a nice one at the right price, with a working TV and phone I'm not sure I could help myself.  ::)  ;D

I'm the same. Common sense says "don't do it".......the irrational part of me says "f*ck it, what the hell".

Most people will know that I'm far more irrational than rational. :y

Got offered an LS400 a few days ago, lovely car and one I have fancied owning for a long time...  Unfortunately I don't have suitable pockets to run a V8 (or V6) petrol, possibly an LPG conversion (as long as the tank doesn't use half the boot) and I did note in my original post, bargain basement prices, money as always is very tight...

XJ8 would never make my list  . . . . only had one . . . but never another thanks  . . . parts prices were frightenly expensive . . . not that roomy & no headroom for us "slightly" above avergae height & build gentlemen  . .  .way too many negatives for my liking :'( :'(

I've had two BMW's-a 528 and a 320-blew the engines out of both would never have another.LS400,smooth,silent and lots of toys and so dull and boring to drive, they engineered all the soul out of it imho.Never owned a Merc[although dad had a 280CE coupe back in the 70's[lovely car]had an XJ,but it was the last of the straight sixes, not as roomy as it's size would suggest[a Jag trait]but a beautiful motor nonetheless, and parts prices-what few it needed-were very reasonable I thought.

Not really. 22mpg Av vs 23.7mpg in the 3.2.   :P

Just shows how terrible the 3.2 is, given the cylinders and power output it has.

The V12 probably produces the same torque at a third of the 3.2 rpm... so for a given power to weight ratio at any rpm, the V12 will use similar amounts of fuel... the discrepancy being higher at lower speeds due to the fact it has nearly twice the capacity... 12 pots using a drop of fuel each rpm will use 6 drops more than 6 pots. As the revs rise, 12 pots become much more efficient  ;)

Hopefully be able to tell you in the not too distant future...

Just took delivery of SWMBOs replacement Estate - old Estate in for sale section.

Its an auto Mondeo Estate, 1 owner, immaculate with only 25K miles on it.

Always personally thought these drive much better then the insignias. Not forgetting the sheer size compared to a petite insignia.

I have a bit of a soft spot for the Mundanos (not the early buckets, but from about 2004 onwards).  However, colleagues who have had the current ones have had all sorts of electrical gremlins - instrumentation, DAB packing up, satnav not moving etc - which have either taken ages to get resolved, or never got resolved.  Its possible the local dealer in MK is shit of course ;)

For the Mundano v Insignia debate, I have driven a detuned, 130bhp CDTi Insignia to the France/Spain border and back, and it was an effortless, comfortable drive, with no reliability issues except running out of brakes on the way down.  So I wouldn't be put off by an Insignia.  I've also been a passenger in a Mundano from Luton to the home of Stella Artois, again no issues with comfort etc....   ....all issues on that lads weekend were purely down to trying too many of Belgiums finest ;D

Thanks for the comments guys, rear load space is adequate for SWIMBOs needs, it drives really well (should do at 25K miles), performance is similat to the Omega Estate, comfort a lot better.

Its not a 1.8  ;)  Courtesy cars are usually basic models, this is not a basic model.  Won't rue selling the Omega - whilst its been reliable and is running well it still needs more atttention than a newish car.  I am of the age now where I can't be bothered mucking about with an old cheap BMW etc - I can afford to buy and run newish cars without getting my hands dirty.

Well, as it happens it was a Zetec. Same wheels and seat fabric... But don't worry, it was also white.

Clearly never heard the phrase 'soot chucker' :D

And as for the BMW, I paid £500 for it... I could have bought your car to go with it, but I decided to go on holiday instead.

I can only hope that when I reach your stage in life that I still have my sense of humour because it must be hellish without one. Watt. ::)

Obviously I knew what you meant by your comment " the pile of coal at the back of the car " - just felt it wasn't necessary.
Still got my sense of humour - your comments are not humourous just negative - is negative your middle name?  If you can't contribute anything sensible to a thread, suggest you zip it, your snide comments are becoming tiring.

Make sure you change the Mondeo gearbox oil as required. It's essential that it's done otherwise can mean expensive repairs. The gearbox oil change is also expensive - so make sure you do your homework!
