Ok, so my question is when did you get onto an email system, whether home or work related ...
I'll start, it was March 1985, IBM mainframe based system for Vauxhall motors in Luton. Proper "own" internet connected email was via BT internet sometime in 1994 .......
-
Much later. About 1997.
-
At school, age 13 (I think) 1997.
-
First went "on line" sometime in 1999,with home pc,first time we'd had a computer!
-
Whats an email?? ???
-
Around 1998/9

It was the seventies. Pretty well known fact.

If I were you, I'd do what I always have done, read the thread title and just post a reply without even bothering to understand what the thread is actually about. ;D

Thanks for the heads up, I think the larger Tesco stores are going up-market a bit.
tried some of their ready meals, just can`t find that strong horsey taste now :(
several other bargains to be had too, made in China but reasonable quality
a set of Tesco swivel-head ratchet spanners for £12 sizes 8,10,11,13,14,17 mm
Where was we, oh yer Freeserve 56k dial-up with their email tag about 1999 ;D more reliable than my 50mb virgin rip-off currently running at 2.7 mb download speed :P

Must have been back in 1988, shortly after I became a radio amateur and we used to run an IP network over the air.
My old hostname still resoves! :o
nslookup g7bcs.ampr.org
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: g7bcs.ampr.org
Address: 44.131.242.58

Damn ! Can't recall the year. Saw an advert for lifetime email with startup company Zoo Internet. I bought it and although Zoo have been taken over many times over the years, my @zoo.co.uk still works and is still my main personal address. I would say around 1985/6 or thereabouts. Turned out to be a decent deal.

Predecessor to email which iirc was CIX in the late 1980's as an electronic telex / telegram equivalent with our local modem access point (before ISPs) in Guildford. Vital communications system where 95% of what we produced was sold all round the world. :y :y :y
Was on the leading edge of multi-player games and remote multi-player games, developing the comms along with many other parts. Exciting times. :y :y :y

It's just come back to me! When I bought my first computer, I got a disc with it for freeserve. That was the first one. My address was @freeserve.co.uk and, believe it or not, I still have a web based @fsmail account with orange which, by a huge coincidence running with this thread, is closing down on May 31st through lack of use.

That's interesting, a "G7" callsign that's newer than my 1977 G8 one. How should that work? Needless to say that I've not used it at all since passing the exam and getting the licence - which I suspect has now lapsed!

I don't remember pointless things,
Now important things like wife's birthday, wedding anniversary, yes, but the 1st day I sent an email, Christ get out more.
Would have been around 97/98. :o
-
See, you do remember ;D
-
The spanners don't sound so yummy but I may try them anyway :y

Around time I bought my first house, and could then use a modem. Proper internet email, via a bulletin board.
First electronic messaging was when I first started work, proprietary system on a minicomputer.

Likewise, I had a FidoNet address for a while when I ran a BBS (2:2502/17), then CompuServe, then Demon Internet, probably a year or so apart each time.
Great little documentary on BBSes btw - http://www.bbsdocumentary.com/ - has a good segment on FidoNet and it's founders.
