I get to see my mums energy usage online....her account is linked to mine...same supplier.
I couldn't work out why her leccy usage was so much higher last month.....seeing as my mum has been in hospital for the last 6 weeks....going home next week tho :) Theres only the cleaner been going in, plus my weekly visits to check everything is ok. I usually have a cuppa whilst there....
I took her meter readings last week as requested by energy company.....and sent them in online.
So today I was over there again and checked the meter readings .....
Ummm ... I submitted a reading last week that was over 600 units too high.....must have read the meter wrong :-[
Today we both change tariffs to another fixed price tariff.....however the leccy per unit is about 5p/unit higher than we were paying.....
So.....as that means about a £30 difference.......should I let the energy company know I goofed up on the last meter reading :-\

Hmmm, not sure I follow that Dave. :-\ :-\ :-\

What's the betting that, if you do tell them, you just open a whole can of worms trying to get it sorted out? ::)
I had a leccy meter that wasn't going round for about 6 months. When I eventually discovered and told them, they couldn't give a monkeys. Just scheduled me in for a replacement which arrived a few months later and never tried to bill me for the free leccy I'd had.
They're not selling real leccy, just collecting numbers, sending bills and paying a share to the wholesaler. What isn't recorded isn't their problem.

Good point .... mums the word then ;D
I managed to get free energy for a year when I first joined up....they had my bank details and failed to take the DD for 12months, altho the bills said I was paying the DD, nothing was being taken from my bank account.
They then sent me a bill with 12months worth re-added I complained. Originally they said it was correct and I had to pay it.
After a browse of Ofgens website, I discovered that if an energy company fails to take DD's then its basically their problem and the customer cannot be charged. After pointing out the web page to them, a manager phoned me back pretty sharpish and apologised and the 12 months charges would be removed from my bill. :y

Thanks for this thread TD. :y
It reminded me of the situation my daughter has found herself in. She thought her energy bills were very cheap in her flat for the last 3 years. Then on boxing day her electricity was cut off. Turned out her supplier had sent her correspondence addressed to the occupier (which therefore got binned) informing her that her DD was only for gas and not electricity (their mistake) , so they cut her off and then installed a PAYG meter, which took several days to find an outlet which sold the cards for it.
She had a serious chest infection throughout this period, so it made life miserable.
She offered to pay the £1500 immediately to have everything put back as it should be, but up to today she couldn't get them to do anything, including allow her to pay the bill.
I forwarded this thread to her, and she did a little research, made a couple of phone calls, and it turns out that they probably cant charge her a penny, as they have broken every rule in the book.
Superb. :) :) :)

I love it. Bastards think they can just walk all over people.

Me too. Also, perfect timing as she lost her job a fortnight ago. ;)

Lost her job as in 'Oh shit', or lost her job as in 'Not to worry'?

Lost a well paid job, but has enough in the bank to survive for a while, so not an immediate panic, but trading is a shrinking industry. Computers are taking over, so there are many applicants for every position when they come up.

I should think she does have enough to survive for a while! She's one of the few that make my wife's salary look like peanuts. ;D

Not quite. Probably similar tbh. Its not usually as well paid as it used to be. £2200 pcm rent for a 1 bed flat doesn't help either.

Well....dad doesn't live that far away, so that's a few bob saved. ;D

I could move up north. ;D

We've got a spare room. Your daughter could have a nice break up here, pay our mortgage on a 4 bed house, and still have £1500 to spare :o
-
Sounds like a plan. :y ;D

Your daughter does realise, Albs, that just for the rent she's paying there, she could pay our mortgage, our fuel bills, our council tax, our home and car insurance, our petrol bill for the month, our mobile phone bills (3) our water bill our car tax and still have £900 a month left? ;D
Oops little miscalc there but sorted.

'course she'd be earning 50% less (well.. y'know, not right now, but ;D)
I've looked at the same kind of maths - I moved from Bracknell to Northampton and got twice the house for the same money (or, same house for half the money). But if I took a job up there doing the same as I do down here my salary would only be ~40% of what it is working down south..
