My '02 2.6 V6 developed a misfire on the road, which shows up as cylinder 2 fuel injector and misfire on other cylinders. Originally EML light, then engine symbol. Occurs at all lower revs, rough running. New injector quoted £270.
Seems fairly straightforward, or is there anything else this could be, or that I should do before getting the repair done?
Other than topping up, I haven't done any maintenance to the car yet (only just bought it).

Far more likely to be HT related than an injector fault ;)
So, what were the codes ;)

P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303 and P0202.

Money loom fault as a)injectors on these are pretty bombproof and b) for that combination of missfire codes it is unlikely to be a water based HT issue...
0300 is pretty banal, but for water based HT issues it is more typical to see 0305/0306 first.
Pull the coil packs and look for signs of oil in the plug wells, especially cylinder 2. Then pull the plug and report back.
Also, any recent engine work?

I don't know what work the car has had. The MOT refers to oil leak and covers which I thought could be the rocker covers. I was vaguely aware of this issue with oil and coil packs.
The advice seems to have picked up that P0202 code and diagnosed fuel injector.
I would ask a garage to do what you are suggesting.

You could also obtain a used injector, any would do, and plug it into each plug on the injector loom in turn and ensure that the wiring is sound before condeming the injector itself.

If the coils have been swimming in oil due to leaking cam covers then the rubber boots on the coils will rot first and the insulation on the coils themselves may be scrap due to contact with the oil.
The cam cover seal leaks are generally caused by the crankcase breathers being blocked. Quite often we hear of people paying for the cam cover seals to be replaced only for them to fail again soon after because the breathers were not cleaned at the same time.

Garage changed the coil pack and the issue has gone away.
Also, the fuel economy has noticably improved (38 vs 32mpg (!)) - possible warning of the issue?
