Title: Split brake caliper rubbber dust boot
Post by: Andy A on 13 April 2017, 09:59:06
My son's car has both front brake caliper rubber dust boots split. Is that an MOT failure?

I've put some silicone over them for now.

I wouldn't think the tester would check that. The main problem would be that the lack of a dust boot can lead to the brake piston seizing[even if only partially]and causing an imbalance in the braking performance.

If the piston seal isn't leaking, then I wouldn't worry about it. The tester isn't allowed to dismantle anything, so how will he be able to see a a split caliper boot? Unless it's hanging out or you've made it obvious with some sort of gunge.

I'll let him know it should be alright.

Thanks both.  :y
