That is all I'm asking for, don't even need an aftermarket head unit as long as I can listen to something else than CDs or Radio...
But aftermarket head unit would be optimal but are there tricks to do that today or is it still "not recommended"?
Such a PITA this Bose system, one tweeter is crackling a bit too so not sure what I can even do about that.

Hack into the CDC wiring... presuming FL...

I used a pair of rca plugs rather than a phono socket and ran them to the glovebox. Fit a telematics glove box and a bluetooth headunit and connect the plugs to the amp outputs on the head unit, job jobbed :y
Alternatively, obtain and fit one of these... instead of the second headunit...

Yep, interrupting the CD audio is the way to go.
No options for USB unless you involve or put some trickery in front of your Audio Source injection.

Well just found this by Google, doesn't seem that difficult at all :O
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v16bvgJmG0M
This guide seems more straightforward http://www.zafira-forum.de/showthread.php?25073-Line-In-f%FCr-Delco-CDR500(E)
Then hide the aux (or rca) connector inside the dash and plug a bluetooth receiver into it or something I guess :o

I have a cassette adaptor that goes into the head unit and plugs into my iPod earphone socket.
Works a treat, have used it for years.
I actually wired the cable through the head unit and behind the centre console to my iPod mount up by the heater vents to keep it nice and tidy, but even if you didn't do that it works, just has a cable coming out the cassette aperture.
Something like this:

Yeah it would have been easy if it was a cassette player indeed.

The simple option is by an up-to date 21st century head unit, and get rid of the old unit. :y

Can you link me one from Ebay that would work? Arent all the new head units like 2 DIN? Or bigger?
-
I used a Sony DTS S310 BTX in the glove box for this :y
Also able to run a disc changer in the boot, so you won't lose the cd player...
Be mindful that newer units tend not to have the bus input for a disc changer...

Will that work with the rest of the Bose system?

No, there's nothing out there off the shelf that will be compatible with the Bose HU, Amplifier, Speaker setup arrangement.
All Bose Component stuff from that era is very unique in how interconnects its Audio signal levels between the units.
It will be a rip it all out job and start again with any new Aftermarket HU if you want it to sound correct.

I have an eye on one of these...

Obviously when the next new thing comes out and the price bombs ::)
-
