Title: Another week, another trip to Bucks... breakfast?
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 21 April 2017, 21:38:55
MrsGK and I are yet again making a silly trip down south, this time staying in that most highly regarded establishment, the Buckingham Travelodge. With Tesco superstore and a choice of TWO fuel stations in walking distance...! Yes, I know how to treat a girl - so where can I take her for a decent early brekfast on Tuesday morning? Continental, Full English, or good old bacon butties...

Also local OOFers, look out for a pretty girl and egg-head bloke in a Jewish Racing Gold 190E, with Pistonheads smiley in the rear window... :y

Tescos?
Sorry - If you can stomach a breakfast of coffee you would be OK....

I tend to assume that a 'superstore' can manage to serve up some hot food but Tescos don't agree with me.

That's my usual but we are occupied all day so think I need something a little more... nourishing and filling! :D

In Gastro's Britain, such outlets would be nuked from orbit.

Hence my name I suppose...

Is there a Toby Carvery anywhere near where you will be staying? They do a fabulous all-you-can-eat breakfast for under £5, with lots of choices of items for your brekkie!
I can fill my Omega-sized belly easily..... :-[ :y

No MackayD's in FBuckingham.

Back to OP - not that much in Buckingham breakie wise, probably one of the pubs in the town centre is best bet (about 10-15min walk).

There used to be a Little Chef next door (actually, the building may still be there, not sure since they've built the housing estate around it), but that closed several years back.

Which way you heading when you get up, as that may open other options, or are you staying in Buckingham

Heading to Halton :y

Heading to Halton :y
As in RAF Halton? I went to school there :).

I can't immediately think of any establishment on route, but would suspect your best bets would be Winslow (a village on route between Buckingham and Aylesbury), Aylesbury itself (county town of Bucks) or Wendover (village near Halton, quite touristy, likely to get those Bistro type places).  Despite living in Aylesbury for 28yrs, I moved over 15yrs ago, so guess my old haunts for a cheap, honest breakkie have long since gone  :'(.  Aylesbury has a weatherspoons, but the cost of parking in town makes it a bloody expensive stop.

Unfortunately they seem to be "hit and miss". Had some lovely experiences but the local one to us has been universally shite any time of any day... 5 visits by us and a couple more from others have all experienced the same crappy, arrogant service.

Nowadays I avoid them

The one up the road in Banburyshire is variable. If going at lunchtime, you need to get in before the pensioners.

Timed right, you get a reasonable roast at a great price. Timed wrong, I don't care how cheap it is, I don't want cold, dried-up food.

"Service", LD? It's a self-service buffet style thing, so if you have been badly served there, you only have yourself to blame!  ;D

I'd love a full English, but Mrs TB is out every weekend now until late May.

Still, anyone visiting Brakkers, I can recommend Jennys, near The Greyhound.

Frankie and Bennie's, breakfast is very nice, 2-4-£10. Extra £1 gets you free refils of tea/coffee. Or maybe for an oof meet, try this
