Title: Vintage adverts that wouldn't be allowed now.
Post by: Varche on 22 April 2017, 10:59:54
I was having a look through some old literature and came across several adverts for Golden Virginia  showing people actually smoking. 18p an ounce !

That reminded me of a catching ad that used to run at the cinema (70's?) for some smoking product. A large package was carried below a helicopter .

Anyway I found this link to quite a few vintage ads that certainly wouldn't be allowed nowadays.

This one made me smile    http://frank151.com/seriously-disturbing-vintage-advertisements/55/

Anyone else remember ads that just would not be allowed now.?

I used to love the Hamlet cigar adverts. 8)

Some cigarette adverts I can remember from the late fifties, early sixties, actually promoted the health benefits of smoking their brands! Yes Varche, never be allowed now that's for sure. :D ;)

I think most domestic appliance ads from more than about 10yrs ago would be considered sexist by many (although I dare say not many on these boards  ;D).

However this one always springs to mind

As do early smoking ads like this  ;D

Oh yes!  You could collect Golliwog badges; dozens of them.  A Golliwog to suit everyone!

Can you imagine that now?! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

This is an advert from the 1980's:

Yep...the golliwogs were everywhere and nobody thought anything of it.

I doubt the Black and White Minstrels will be shown again. And what of the popular colour 'nigger brown'? I can't see that making a comeback.
