Title: Front wheel bearing
Post by: Entwood on 25 April 2017, 17:15:04
Whats the best source for a Front Wheel Bearing for a 3.2 please ??

Ominous speed related whine started today... goes quiet in right hand turns, louder in left hand turns, so suspect right hand wheel bearing.. but it is persisting down and I ain't getting wet just to check it out !!

Changed 70,000 miles ago ....

 :) :)

I fitted a Lucas one from ECP a couple of years ago Nige.
Seem to remember 65 quid rings a bell.
You will need some scaffolding and a long bar.
Watch out you don't smash the abs sensor when you abuse it off  ;)

Try Keith abs, he might have one.

Might be worth checking it's not just a sharp edge on a brake pad. :y

Use Vetech (GSF) for pretty much everything due to low cost and lack of warranty claims* :y

*plus when asked what brand I always like to say "in vetech yo". The little things.

I haven't done my front wheel bearing(s) but once hub nut off wouldn't the old unit just slide off? Or are these known for seizing? Most bolt on bearing/hub complete assemblies on other motors just slide off the stub axle after hub nut off.

I used Autovaux with no issues but I would think GSF or Euro Crap Parts would be similar in quality, I think I paid £35 a side.

Front hub nut is 200Nm and the the hub assembly just slides off  :y

I guess you could think that .. but the record shows one front one failed in France (Aug 2011, 108760 miles) and they "insisted" on changing both ... never felt or sounded right and MarkDTM diagnosed a badly made Front Nearside bearing at the "nearly wales" meet in September 2011 so it was changed (110006 miles).

Nearside rear bearing changed in April 2012 (114903 miles)

Now approaching 165000 miles so not to bad IMHO .. :)

You would have probably hit it with a hammer whether it needed it or not knowing you  :P ;D

Both of mine just pulled off with a small amount of force, no hammer required over here  ;D

Ah yes...I forgot that my torque wrench only goes to 200Nm, IIRC I did it to 200Nm and then a further 90 degrees.
It was a good few years ago now  ;D
