Title: bulbs in display
Post by: robson on 29 April 2017, 17:54:25
how easy is it to examine bulbs in the clock, time.temp etc display. My display is quite dim .Or could it be the rheostat at fault.

They should brighten/dim appropriately as you move the wheel... But they do blacken over time, before failing...

No response is more likely the bulbs than the rheostat :y

If the dash backlighting (with lights on) adjusts with wheel, then it'll be bulbs in the MID/TID.

Remove instruments (5mins), then you have full access to the bulbs for the MID/TID, they are the type you turn through quarter turn, then they lift out.

Remove the 2 centre vents with the flap closed so the screws dont fall into the abyss of the mig, and remove the vent assembly.

Then lift off the top half of the cowling, should just pop off.

You should be left with 2 screws, one to the left of the M/TID and one above the steering coloumn.

Once removed the whole binnicle will lift out from the left, There will be one or two leads from the mid to disconnect and it can be freed.

dont be tempted to have the keys in while doing the job.

The display light changes  with lights on and rheostat moved. Lights off no change in display when rheostat moved. That sounds correct? so its bulbs? I will look at guide :y

Rheostat only works lights on, but sounds like your bulbs are past their best :y
