Title: Vented rear brakes - Pins and Clips
Post by: VXL V6 on 06 May 2017, 17:57:45
Struggling to get these!

The suggested Mintex kit MBA 1271 kit in the guide, despite saying it is for vented on the Mintex website, is actually for the solid disc setup  :'(

I shall keep trying to find the correct ones!

PS. If anyone wants a new set of either Mintex or GM pins or clips for non vented rear setups then drop me a PM!

iirc, that was highlighted a couple of years back :-\

Four choices...

Good second hand.
Make your own pins or improvise.
Fit solid discs/calipers.
Fit modified vented rear calipers from later Monaro CV8.

Might have a set or two of used pins here ;)

These do seem very hard / almost impossible to find now.i tried various places a while back.all confident that they could get them, their catalogue numbers were correct etc etc, when they arrived all were wrong. Even had the cheek / ignorance to suggest my car must have been fitted with different ,non standard brakes !.i ended up repairing the springs(re riveted two halves back together)and getting some 6mm silver steel rods to make and machine new pins from using the collets from a set of shorter pins I had got.i was thinking of buying a mini modellers lathe myself to make these and to help other owners out but any machine shop should be able to knock some up for a reasonable price.

No need for silver steel, ordinary mild will do. I would make them a fairly tight fit, and add a heavy knurl to retain them.

I have kept previous pins and clips, the clips would need to be riveted again so can get around the problem if I need too. Fortunately this setup is for the project car which I have just refurbished a set of calipers for so isn't urgent at the moment. Which reminds me - if you need to fit new bleed nipples to the ATE vented calipers they are an M7 thread.  :y

The silver steel I got was cheap anyway.about £2 for a half metre length.i had them machined up like the originals so didn't need a knurl .its a shame there aren't any other cars that these longer pins are fitted to but I'm sure one of us would have known by now .

ECP have them listed, different part number, to non vented :).

Whoops, don't list them any more, same part number comes up.
Bloody obswits. >:(

I followed cam.in.heads example and restored mine. The clips on both my 2.6's fell apart, but a quick clean up and a rivet sorted that. I had a new set of clips for a solid disk, so I drilled out the rivet, then used the short piece with the long piece of the old clip, and job was a good one :y
