hi people, hope you all good. can anyone advise me please. my 2.5td is leaking diesel from around the injector pump. the motor is still running sweet. but, assuming the worst, I have seen a pump for sale on ebay (megaparts.eu) for 293.48 euros. the part no is the same.
ie: 0460406994. the donor motor is a bmw 7 series, (E38) 2.5TDS. 143 HP sedan auto. 1997. bosch. I know the extra power is probably too much for the AR25, but no problem, 1 will not be "booting" it. my question is, will this pump work normally? in anticipation, of informed replys, thank you all. ancient explorer.

On Omegas, the engine ECU must be newer than the pump. If the pump is newer, the ECU cannot recognise it.
No idea about other Bosch pumps, as there must be some (limited) intelligence in the pump for the above to be true.
The power is decided by engine ECU, not pump, BTW.

thank you sir. much appreciated. the way to go I surmise, would be to recon the original?
-
just had a thought. another answer might be to replace the ecu along with the pump?

Suspect it would need to be an Omega ECU to work properly. Then you're in the realms of immobilisers and transpnders....

thanks again. it would seem, the best route is to recon the original, or obtain a secondhand omega unit from same year, or earlier. i have read "hoofing it" procedure. is it possible to remove the original, and leave engine without a pump in place. whilst recon/obtaining secondhand pump. ie: would the timing chain drop into the sump, or a similar catastrophe!! i understand the engine must not be moved, as timing would be disturbed. again much appreciated.

Hi people, just an update. spent the day under the 2.5td. possibly, I have found an external leak. will report back, when I have more knowledge. have a nice day. ::)

The pump cover leaks, easy fix if a bit fiddly.
Bosch will not seal you a seal kit but they can be bought of fleabay easy enough.
Various Youtube vids on it, mainly on the Golfs if I remember, essentially same pump.
Did mine when I had my td many moons ago. Do make sure you scribe the pump body so that it goes back in the same place as you found it as it affects the fuelling.

great stuff magwheels. I have just found the leak. only leaks when engine running. it is leaking from the oblong, plastic, raised, cover, on the outboard side of pump, situated on the side. is this the cover you refer to? I tightened the three torx screws on each corner, by about one eighth of a turn. the fourth seems to be a stud?, this is where the leak is. by what you say, the pump obviously, has to be removed to fix. can you confirm, I am on the right track? much appreciated. :)

hi, me again. I should have watched you tube video, before posting! ::) can you confirm though, the seals can be replaced with pump in place. ie: remove inlet manifold, etc, and go for it? as ever, all info greatly appreciated. :)

If its the cover on the top, I certainly had mine off more than once without removing pump (not that I ever changed the seal either)
-
Yep, as "The Boy" says, no need to remove the pump to do the top half. I filled the pump to the brim with Diesel before closing off and it started and run straight off the button. The fourth bolt is if I remember the locking anti tamper bolt that I managed to get a socket to fit. Don't go playing with the bolts until you scribe some marks on it though or you will regret it!!

what can I say. excellent advice. special thanks, to theboy, and magwheels. may you win large on the lottery! I have owned this car from nearly new, when I bought it with my redundancy money. one of the best buys I ever made. it has been the wifes car for many years, and she loves that car. in fact she informs me, if I don"t fix it, I'm out on the street, homeless! :'( but, no wurries, fix it I shall, and keep a roof over my head!! have a nice day all. 8)
