Title: Front parking camera.
Post by: Migv6 le Frog Fan on 10 May 2017, 23:42:36
Swmbo hates parking the Omega as she cant see the front of it, which is fair comment as neither can I.
I must admit I'm always slightly nervous when parking front end on to the front of another car in supermarkets and the like, as I like to get the rear end off the road if possible, but cant see exactly how close I could get to the car in front.
Anyhoo, I am considering installing a little camera in either the front grill or bumper.
Anyone got any experience / recommendations etc ?
Tia.

Do you get a free omega with that?

My German is a little rusty, but no, I don't think so ;D

Might be more effective than a little camera stuck behind the grill though ;)

I find the Omega remarkably easy to park.  Now the Jag, I admit, I do have to rely on the technology, front and back  :-[

Your eyes are much younger than mine. My first Omega, 10 years ago, seemed easier to park than my current one.  :D
I don't seem to be able to judge distance as finely as I used to, despite visits to Specsavers.
The Bosch is probably a decent one, but a bit too pricey I think. Will do a bit of research and may decide on something then.
Actually, a park pilot from the rear of an Omega fitted to the front might be a possibility.  :-\

Just creep slowly forward and when you start to feel resistance, you're there  :y

My XFR has front and rear parking sensors as you would expect.

The rear view camera I rarely use, looking over my shoulder instead.......plus the annoying 'nanny knows best' beeping really pisses me off.

The Omega is a large car for the ladies to deal with and most have no idea where the front and back finish. Datsun Micra or smaller is better for girlies. :)

Already got three cars here.Easier to rig something up on the front of the Omega than buy another car.  ;)
While rummaging in the shed yesterday I cam across an aftermarket park pilot type system I removed from an Omega a few years back.
I may install that at the front of the Omega.
A potential problem I can see with this, is that the sensors will be beeping while in traffic etc. unless I keep a good distance from the car in front. Not sure how best to solve this.  :-\

That's a possibility. Only concern is if the driver forgets to switch it on.  :o ;D

At a risk of mixing metaphors, you can lead a horse to water :D

That's PTM, you probably want latching.

If I was doing, I'd probably intercept speed signal, and also reverse (want fronts to be active when reversing), to turn on.

Migv6, you will find 3rd party systems universally shite

Just found the 3rd party system which was working when I removed it from the rear of an Omega several years ago, no longer works at all.
Also, the car doesn't have a TM switch to wire it into, if it did work.
Back to the drawing board,  but I cant see the result being me intercepting the speed signal.  ::) ;D

Tried the parking system again today, but connected to a power supply I knew had power, rather than one that I thought had power. It worked fine.  :-[ ;D
So, Ive fitted it to the car with a little switch on the gearshift panel. Seems to work ok.  :)
