went to do an oof member an oil change. there is a lot of oil around the filter housing which is the plastic type with the nut shaped top so a socket should release it . before I even touched it I noticed a drip of oil coming from the nut area. (the oil had already been dropped. )
I also noticed the nut area looked as if it had once been repaired with an epoxy resin or something. the inevitable happened ., never have I known a filter be so tight & even with a tommy bar it wasn't moving. no points for guessing what happened , we now need a new filter housing cap . alternatively what do I need to get for using the canister type of filter & where can I get one pronto.

I think Vauxhall do the part you need 90412159 plus of course you need the alternative filter

its a 2.6 cdx , funny that cos all the ones I have come across have had plastic types.

thanks for the prompt link. ordered one from vx . now £21 + vat ., but I also rang Pirtek & the guy thinks if I take a filter in he may have one depends on thread size :y :y

the one on peter the butchers is 100% plastic. so obviously the metal one has been replaced with a plastic one. another thing I found, the oil pan plug was very stiff . by that I mean once loosened I needed a 1/2 drive ratchet to remove it right up to the very last thread. a new one went in ok.

this always happens to me, wait till I see the garage concerned, they were a vauxhall dealer in Brigg.
I have already mentioned on here, of my bad luck with a rear wheel bearing, so this comes as no surprise, it ALWAYS happens to me. and has stopped me from going out for a ride on the NYMR :( grrrrrr, as on holiday
Hopefully will be sorted soon..... one good thing, was the price of the Vauxhall oil.... £12.89 for a gallon from a vauxhall dealers round the corner :-)

my 3 migs have been a TD & 2DTI so when I saw this one I presumed it was right. I have literally been trying to remove it & its so stiff, been at it all day & its barely moved, everything did start to turn but even with a 1/2" drive socket on a tommy bar & a jack handle slid over that for more leverage. I consider myself to have strongish arms but I doubt if the 24mm nut turned two full turns.
a decision was made later this afternoon to convert to canister type . so I may have more joy tomorrow as I can destroy the cap.

Almost certainly a different thread... You need to remove the cap one way or tother to get at the retaining bolt.

I reckon, thats how it got foobared in the first place, and subsequent oil changes, have been just that, an oil change. The screw on, will be better for the future oil/filter changes as well
