well after I had my problem oil filter done, It got me thinking about 2 other things, the timing belt, which could be sorted , and the exhaust. I knew there was a problem at a joint that is just in front of the rear box, so I decide to give my local ATS a try, as have used them many times over the year. they checked it over, and uttered the immortal words, (whilst shaking his head) we cannot do it, as its an old car, and bolts will be to awkward to remove. So I came to the conclusion they only do farm vehicles and new ish cars, where they can get a fast turnaround (more money and less work)
I am now at a loss as to what to do :(

Find a proper garage...

Their excuse for not being able to do the job involves 5 minutes with an angle grinder. Unbelievable !

I have used 4 round here, been ripped off at them all sadly, mainly because I do not no much about cars in general, and rely on them to be honest (thats a laugh), and follow through with the advice and guidance given......

am just been taken for a mug lol

The awkward part of replacing an old exhaust on a V6 is the joints between the cats and the centre boxes, as the bolts usually need to be drilled out, which is time consuming. Having said that, if the car is on a ramp, and decent tools used, its not that big a job.
Ive done it on my drive with very limited access and my arms suffered for a frw days afterwards.
In your position - if Darth Loo-knee is no longer available, I would pay Serek a visit and get the cambelt, exhaust, and any other jobs done, in one hit.
A bit of a trek I know, but the job will be done properly, which usually saves time, aggro and money in the long run.

am waiting to hear from Darth Loo-knee, sent him a pm, but will get in touch with Serek as well
-
Have you got a replacement exhaust to fit?
-

ETS / Eternal exhausts from Ebay are good quality and price. :y
-
Beat me to it. :y Get exhaust from Eternal Cheap, good, and delivered to you door

In theory I have had the 'worst' version of Omega exhaust replacement, ie: 'as bad as it gets'. That required both cats off and got a mate to weld on some new flanges as the old ones had rotten wafer thin around the bolts. New stainless steel bolts fitted. For me it wasn't really much of an issue, so for a proper garage should be a reasonably simple affair, really.
If your flanges are fine, then really nothing out of the ordinary exhaust-wise. In fact in my experience I've always ended up getting out the grinder or hacksaw when it's new exhaust-time!

Eternal or ETS exhaust from eBay, for around £75 or so.
Find a good indie garage, they should fit it for a little bit of labour.

Book it in with Serek, hoof, land for a day isn't that bad, and if you book into a hotel for the night, you could dine at spiceland, the favoured eatery of hoofers, and quite a few others. :y
