Today I noticed what looked like a round black sensor hanging down from the flap under the steering column for the fuse box. I dropped the flap and the sensor dropped, attached to a couple of yards of cable! Any idea what it is, please?
The last person to drop the flap was the Green Flag man, in a vain search for the diafnostic socket - so what has he disturbed and is it important?
Ron.

Did he leave his diagnostic lead in your fuse box?
Can you post up a photo?

An old mobile phone loom ? I found one in my car yesterday, behind the glovebox, that I didn't know was there.
-
I KNEW you would want a photo! I'll get one tomoeeow in daylight, but it certainly wasn't there when I last opened that flap. The loose end is black, about the size of a Malteser and has a couple of vent-type slits in it.

It's not the light on warning buzzer is it that's dropped down ?? ???
I recall the buzzer on my old cavalier had a couple of vent hole slits.
Open driver's door and pop the lights on and see it it makes a noise ;)
-
That's a good point, DrAndyB, it does look rather like a sounder; it does have a sticky pad on it, but why theVERY long lead? When I investigate again tomorrow, I'll check where the other end of that lead comes from.....

Microphone ?

Microphone ?
That's what I'd put my money on, a lot of phone handsfree kits in pre-bluetooth days had mikes on the o/s windscreen pillar.

Lights on blazers generally look like a relay with vents in the side

It isn't the lights-on buzzer!

Next time I drive, I'll check to see/hear if it's the parking buzzer - I never fitted the kit, so no idea where that cable goes, if that's what it's for.....

failed .. :(

Microphone ?
+1
It doesn't look like a Nokia hands free microphone but I can't imagine what else it might be :-\

Looks to me like a microphone for hands free kit :y
-
Based on that picture my money is on microphone. Either an old phone kit or someone in MI6/CIA/KGB is really interested in the things you say while you're driving.
-
Microphone or a Mini Speaker / Piezo Buzzer for an after market Reversing Sensors ;)

I'll bring it out onto the dash when I go off this afternoon and park near to something.
Unless I've done something else to upset the Security Forces? :-[

Microphone. I will collect my cigar next time I'm passing. :y ;D
-
I concur, aftermarket handsfree mic.
-
Yup, looks identical to the Microphone from the Parrot Hands-free systems we used to have in our Pool Cars :y
Makes you wonder what else is up there hidden :D

I found a loom consisting of a live 12v, an 0v, a small jackplug and a larger jackplug, tucked up behind my glovebox yesterday.
Guess it was from an old phone install. The 12v and 0v came in handy as I was in the process of looking for two such wires when I came across them. :)
-
Albs, you didn't win the cigar - but I'll give you one anyway. No I won't - I hate smoking. How about a lemonade instead?
It was the parking sounder, as suggested.....
