In the absence of any real problems to address on the Swede, my natural inclination to fettle has drawn me to try and sort out some (very) minor niggles. Today's being scratches on the interior trim. There are a number of these, mostly around the ignition key. Doubtless where the previous owner simultaneously tried to start the car, open a packet of Werthers Originals and locate his driving glasses ::)
Anyway, I've seen a variety of methods talked about on forums ranging from acetone and blowtorches :o to a variety of tins of snake oil. However, I was wondering if anyone here had reliably repaired such marks, and if so, what did you use?

Polycarbonate paint if it's soft trim or a new panel if it's hard plastic...

If that's your only worry, you need to get out more.

Only worry? ONLY WORRY?!? Don't get me started! There's these, and at least half a dozen stone chips, not to mention a patch of lifting lacquer on one of the wheels! The list is endless!! ;D

This is what happens when you don't have a crank sensor to worry about, or an HBV, or cam cover gaskets... ::)

Don't bloody talk to me about crank sensors!
Dead easy they said...20mins at the side of the road they said...
Not on a bloody desmond it isn't. Need the arms of a triple jointed 5 year old to get hold of that b@stard! ;D

Although I have changed one, I still have never seen it in situ and couldn't even really tell you where it is. ;D

you might get that out with some very fine wet and dry paper, > P600 grit. it will be difficult because the paper will hit the dimple tops not the valleys but then again the scratches will have done the same. also you have to sand the entire thing, not just the scratches, to get an even finish and it may not match the adjacent trim. alternatively a fine abrasive paste, probably brasso is too fine and would give a shiny finish. if you want to risk it try an inconspicuous bit first.

Replace the panel?

For light scratches and scuff marks, the 1z Einszett Deep Plastic Cleaner works great.
