Can anyone tell me where to get the Connector PN 90412159 to convert the oil filter from paper element to cannister. Just had to smash mine off as would not come apart to do a filter change. Can find nobody with part in stock and on back order at vauxhall so who knows when l might see one
-
I have recently changed to a 'spin-on' filter using the Vx adapter; the dealer I bought from did have to order one (quickly done via the dealer`s computer).....it took only a day or two to arrive and the Vx. dealer`s parts dept. did mention `they use quite a few of them.
I wonder if the dealer you contacted was (perhaps) just being 'unhelpful', in which case, a call to another Vx dealer might yield a more satisfactory answer.

Hi Debs
Have checked with all the local dealers and all have the same problem. Vx have back orders and do not know when will be available
-
anybody know dimensions and thread sizes? perhaps have local machine shop make one?
will cost more though as one off price unless you know anyone handy with a lathe :y

The father in law in Prestigne??

Breakers.......fitted to most ecotecs of that era.
-
Think thats where l will be tomorrow.
-
Does anyone know what the size is of the internal location in the Connector. I presume it is a hexagon key.

but how do you remove if they're thread locked in? ::)
-
Brute force comes to mind
-
The problem l encountered today was because the internal screw came undone so the paper filter housing just spun round. Took ages drilling holes all round before l could break it open to get it off. Maybe they are all as loose.

Hi Ray
I have 2 complete paper element type filter cases in good condition.
You can have one for the price of a pint.
I am in Fair Oak, they are reasonably clean and off the engines. One has only done about 12 months on re-con engine.
Would get you back on the road until you can get the conversion bit.

Mike

Thanks. That seems a good solution at this point in time.
Will then make sure l have sourced a connector for next filter change.
How will l collect

Hi Ray
Where abouts are you, I am free this evening, and will be home tomorrow morning till about 9am, then in Bishopstoke till about 4pm digging holes.

The only reason the outer will spin is if the cap has been over tightened!

Met Ray last night, nice chap, he has gone off with both my filter housings.
I think he had plans for fitting today but the weather is awful at the moment.
Good luck with fitting Ray.

Got Housings from Mike last night and will be fitting today rain permitting. Back to a paper element but will get me back on road. Are differences in housings so will post pictures if l can to show why had problems. Will have to try and source a Connector before next oil change.
Tried all different dealers and never was able to source Connector. Talking about 2 weeks at least. Have posted on all Breakers sites but have not had any response. What was a quick job turned into a nightmare.

Maybe I'm just lucky - I've never really had a problem with the paper type filters :-/
Then - I only do em up to 10nm ;D

You & me too, although I do have to admit I've never used a torque wrench to tighten it up. Just a nip using a 3/8" 'Tommy bar' :y

Ditto for me. In fact, given that the filter is tucked up and not desperately accessible I prefer it to a canister type. It's easy enough to get a wrench on the end and if it's correctly torqued it's never difficult to remove. Canister types can often be tight and I'm not sure you'd get a removal tool round them very easily up there. :-/
I do wish there was a way of removing them without oil dribbling down my arm right to my armpit though. >:(
It's also galling that they are more expensive than canister filters given that most of the cost must be in the metal canister.

Following an enforced visit to 'Krap-Fit' (last year): My aluminium filter housing leaked very badly from the seal against the machined block 'land'....it had been previously re-sealed with 'goo' and the ring washer had been overly squashed.....the lid was corroded and was hard to screw-on (even by hand) when I did subsequent services.....so I switched to a 'spin-on' at the most-recent oil change; hopefully because it`s only me changing the filters they`ll never be too tight and not-need a tool to free them off. :y

The key to successful car maintenance these days. Don't let the trade touch it!
It's nice to know the option is there if the housing deteriorates but I'm hoping with sensible oil change intervals and the fact that the housing (and I) get a liberal coating of oil with each change there won't be a problem.

I have a funnel with a length of tube on the end. The theory is that you catch the oil in the funnel & send it to your oil catch tray/can. Invariably though, I still end up with oil either down/up my sleeve or over the drive. :-? ;D

Thanks to Mike l am now up and running again. The rain stopped just for me.
No one can convince me that this car had Oil Filter changed at its service or at any service.
Was going to put pictures in to show the difference in Oil Filter Housings but cannot find how to do it.
