On a fast, fully loaded trip back from North Devon to Surrey yesterday my check engine light came on while accelerating away from a set of lights. The car ran and still seems to be running normally. I disconnected the battery to try and clear the light but no luck. The pedal trick did not work. Any ideas? 2.2 2002 petrol auto.
Thanks.

Does it go out after a restart?, after a few hours that is. Mine was a cam sensor. If you do need one, buy only from a main GM dealer and get it yourself. :y

No, still on today after a few starts and a run out, car still seems to run fine though.

I had that on my 2.6 V6; a dose of Cataclean, a tank of Shell V-Power and an Italian tune-up clered it! I did get a code, though, telling me that the N/S cat efficiency was low.

You need to get the codes read, before taking any action.

Yep, no point guessing. It could be anything at this stage. Get it to an OBDII code reader and see what it's reporting.

Where in Surrey are you?

Desmond cam sensor can cause this as well... Cross checked with a code reader and lots of random gearbox codes ;)

If it is the cam sensor I have a known good used GM one off my breaker

I'm in Surbiton, but am happy to travel to anyone with a reader

Thanks, I'll be in touch when I find out what the problem is

*IF* it is a cam sensor - and don't randomly change parts until it is proven via a code reader - don't bother with pattern or 2nd hand. Go to a dealer, and buy a real one from a real dealer.
