I never voted for him, I preferred his smaller partner, Genscher s FDP.
But he was an outstanding statesman. Together with Genscher he formed Germany completely new in 1989.

He'll go down in history as one of the greats of his era. :y
On the radio earlier they said he was Germany's longest serving Chancellor since Bismarck. ??? A record that I'm sure Merkel has her eye on! ::) :)

Yep....generally well respected if not liked.
He was the size of a small giant.
-
Probably more fondly remembered (by most) than that other German chancellor.......the fella who held the reins from 1933 to 1945.
What was his name again? ::)
-
Yes, a giant of a man in so many ways, and one who overcame his young connection with the Nazis to become a great German democrat.
RIP

:( He makes a lot of our politicians look very small potato's by comparisson

The stature (in political terms) of many of todays leaders leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

Thatcher.......did a great job of dividing Britain. :-\
Heseltine did a hatchet job on the old hag in the end. :)

Camoron, B liar, Mcruin, the list is bloody endless. :(

The house of commons is almost exclusively inhabited by political and intellectual pygmies these days.
Whatever you think of her Thatcher, she was a political giant, who was in the end, assassinated by pygmies.
She was probably the last of the giants in the commons. I cant think of one since, or one in the making. This is probably a large part of our current problem. We don't have any real leaders anymore.
