We have 2 Omegas!
Saloon. for 4 years the temp gauge never moved off 80. Now to moves up to 85 quite a lot. Hoses aren't pressurising. Had new rad 2 years ago.
Estate. bought earlier this year. Just had head done :-[ sits at 85. But pre head and now moves up to 90 quite a lot. Hoses not pressurising either
Thoughts?

Hi and welcome
Well, shortest answer - 'HBV'
Longer answer - technically anywhere in the whole coolant system, could be a hose, or could be a leaking plate on the engine where the coolant can eat through and mix with the engine oil (worst case scenario)
If there are no obvious drips (I'm assuming you've looked/would have mentioned if you'd seen any) then HBV (heater bypass valve - under the scuttle, look in the how to's maintenance section) is the first area to check. :)

You have been outside lately ???
If no coolant loss, suspect expansion tank caps for pressure issue.

just to be clearer. when you say hoses arnt pressurising do you mean they arent building any pressure at all(staying soft) or do you mean they are normal .ie not overpressurising ?

i had to buy a new pressure cap for the header tank as it was leaking air out when engine was at temp. but after putting new one on i found you could fix the old one by removing the rubber seal and cleaning the rubber valves in side and leaving the rubber seal in a boil hot pan till supple and back to original shape and thickness. put back on header tank and it was fine. think it was the copper seal that's in the system. as has copper flakes in the the water flushed it out and none there now.

They aren't overpressurising.

not so much!

so sounds like all is ok then.we did have some realy hot days when you were reporting higher temps although the readings you were getting seem normal to me anyway if not a bit on the low side actually.
