Title: Mobile SD memory cards
Post by: Nickbat on 05 August 2008, 21:38:47
I have just been upgraded to a Nokia 6120 Classic. It seems I need a memory card if I want to get the most out of it.

There seems to be a wide variety of prices, sizes and brands of card available. I guess a cheap 2Gb card for a few quid off eBay seems the way to go...

..unless someone knows different.  ;)

For that sort of thing I tend to use a cheap branded card from memorybits.co.uk

for just one card try play.com or something as they give free postage on everything!

martin lewis on http://www.moneysavingexpert.com had some useful links to the best places to get memory cards too.

the problem with a lot of websites, ebuyer, ebay etc is the postage can be as much as the stupidly cheap cards these days!

on amazon there's a 2GB sandisk SD card going for £2.50!!! add it to a couple of cds and there's free postage!

although for a mobile you'd probably want microSD or something like?

oh and i think Crucial memory do free postage direct from them too, but that may  only be on RAM.

6120 or 6220 classic? as they both use microSD but the 6220 can take up to 8GB!

My phone has the cheapest 2 gb card I could find. All it does is serve up songs, pics etc

My D80 camera has a Sandisk Extreme III 2 gb. According to the blurb, it's nearly thermonuclear protection.

The difference in price is now less than a tenner. The difference in performance is probably unnoticeable by me. The difference in percieved reliability made me pay for the Sandisk.

These used to be £65!

Hourses for courses, but I would go cheap for the phone.

But screwed on postage, as you always are with Amazon's 3rd party shops.

I'm missing something fundamental.

A phone is for phone calls.  Why the hell does it need a memory card?

coz it can do so much more...... pics , replace an Ipod, videos, they all use more space than phone numbers!

oh and if you save your contact data on the card then it's a lot more tranferable!

my mate watches tv on his phone........streamed live from his home server.... :o

A phone can almost do the cleaning for ya lol (gawd will that one be a best seller or what altho i'm not sure I'd like to be holding it in my hand too often lol)

Guess this isn't a good time to ask for my post count back huh?

Of course, if your mobile goes missing and its got your memory card in it.., u'r totally up the swaneee.., if u lose a diary, its a pain but not a total calamity.., (those of us that have any contacts that will allow us to know their contact details of course)

I saved all my contacts by default to the phone memory. ooops
upgrading firmware and the phone didn't like it and said go forth.

1 dead phone and all contacts lost.
 That hurts >:(

Just ordered a 2Gb from play.com at £5.99 with free postage (thanks Spongebob!  :y)

I agree with TB that, at the end of the day, a phone is a phone, but it's useful to have the video & camera resources available when you've forgotten the digital camera (which I normally do!).  ;)

Dream on, anything lfash based will not be reliable......the best currently is Silicon Systems.

Blimey is it surrounded in a lead lined box with 2.3M of concrete around it then?

Even then it'd need to be 7 Miles away!
