Title: I have a hunch...
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 06 August 2008, 13:45:35
... and it is only a hunch.

That the Omega I buy tonight, is going to have a few very common (and easy to fix) issues, which is why it was so cheap.

High on my suspicious list is, occasional cutting out (crank sensor),  and oil in the plug wells (camcover gaskets). I also dreamt last night that it was showing speccles of oil in the header tank - let's hope that's not true, and I am proved wrong, eh ;D

Lets hope your wrong James. Dreaming about specks of water in the header tank.. Sounds that precise it may be a vision  :-/ Either that or steer clear of shady people selling suspicious mushrooms in the street LOL  ;D ;D

My dreams are always a tad on the wild side to be any use  :D

Methinks JV6CDX wouldn't be too worried whatever issues the car may have....

I think he'd be very bored if there was nothing wrong at all!

..interesting point.

At what level would it justify further negotiation with the seller?
An innocent/ignorant but genuine seller may not have noticed the initial signs of oil cooler failure, or be aware of oil in the plug wells, and therefore not mentioned it in the ad, but these are costly/timeconsuming things to resolve.

Justify asking for something off, or is it luck of the draw?

Was it not e-bay? In which case the price is set in stone. Still it was a good price for the car... I think  ;)

Price on Ebay is payable if the seller has described an item 100% acurately.

If a car is belching smoke or has a big scratch on it that they negletected to mention, then the price becomes negotiable.

But that is not as black and white as it sounds...

My example is where the expansion tank has oil appearing in it.   I suspect most owners don't open the bonnet let alone check stuff like that.

(I'm not discussing james' car, just the point in principle..)
