Post by: Doctor Gollum on 10 July 2017, 14:29:39

No idea, Al. :-\

All I can tell you is that when the cambelt snapped on my 1974 1.6 Capri the engine was undamaged.

SOHC or DOHC? Sorry, that's petrol. 2.0 diesel is an interference engine.

Very rare for an oil burner to be "safe" now

Be fair to say then, that a 100K car with little history, a year since expired MoT and snapped belt isn't worth a used tissue... ::)

Just been asked to quote for fixing it... ::) being a relatively rough and thirsty engine, they sold five of them... Low mileage replacement is around a grand... Plus belt, fluids and anything else that might be wrong with it... Mate reckons it might be worth £2,500 :D

I reckon it will owe him pretty much all of it... Won't be a quick seller either.

Not seen a diesel ever fail safe, just done a 1.6 80s VW and that was goosed

My Ford did  ;)

New cambelt kit fitted, turned the key and fired up  :)

If it will turn over with shagged cambelt then I would have thought it could be 'safe'

Normally they only turn over because the valves are all bent out of the way ;D,you were very fortunate with your Ford  ::)

This vw had smashed 3 of the shimmed followers (that dates it), bent four valves and had knackered three of the bores the followers sit in......8 valve head
