Title: Darwin claims another
Post by: Rods2 on 13 July 2017, 17:05:58
St Maarten runway starts as the beach ends, with a fence on the runway parameter with danger warning signs telling people not to stand at the fence watching aircraft land or take off due to jet blast. Of course, why follow stupid danger warning signs, whatever could go wrong? :o :o :o :-[ :-[ :-[

I wish we had an airport down here, we could do with a bit of a cull and at least half the local halfwits would line up and queue to stand in the blast. Greggs and Cash Converters would possibly go out of business soon after, but hey ho  ::)

You didn't have to move to Wales. Scotland would have been my choice.

Always plenty supplied with low wattage bulbs, unfortunately, it seems to be becoming more common for the supplied bulb being blown at birth. :o :o :o

On the other hand, you do wonder if it's time for a proper perimeter fence (extending into the sea) rather than for it to be sold as a "tourist attraction". :-\

From some of the videos I've seen, a little more attention to aircraft loading and takeoff performance wouldn't go amiss either, because some of those flights would have been in the drink given an engine failure after V1. :-X

Indeed, on both counts.

Equally, there's not much more they can do for the actual airfield so it really is down to loading, performance and faith that the (rare, TBF) engine failures don't happen there! ::)

The road is already closed to traffic, athough the two concrete walls really won't help on the injury front ::)

Including the road within the boundary fence might allow enough clearance for a low blast screen. Easy enough to reduce the risk if they genuinely want to :-X

It still amazes me how stupid people are.

Even small things like kissing a camel on holiday.

the New Zealand woman- did she actually do a mental risk assesment? It beggars belief.

In addition to inherent stupidity, the Youtube / Selfie thing really has not helped. Everyone (well not everyone, not us of course  :-\  ) wants to be an instant internet phenomenon and get their 15 minutes of fame. Take the case of the lady that shot her boyfriend thinking a book was enough protection . . . . nuff said.

Eastern Europe are very pragmatic in that if stupid people want to do stupid things, let them get on with it. Men are much better at this when given a free reign, compared to women, which is why their male life expectancy is about 60 years. :-[ :-[ :-[

Well quite.  I am sometimes puzzled when somebody does something dangerous or stupid, dies as a result, and everyone starts hand wringing. When I say "dangerous" I mean dangeous and unnecessary/frivolous/stupid like sky diving, driving at 150mph or whatever, overtaking on bends, crossing a busy road with headphones on you get the idea. "Oh dear he/she was such a lovely person" etc, maybe, but they contributed significantly to their own death. Justifiably dangerous, I mean things like fire fighting, war, acts of genuine heroism.

I'm not saying never do anything, but let's not pretend that the victim is blameless in such circumstances.

Sadly not, because they figure out how to breed before they exclude themselves from the gene pool.   ;)
